00:00It was our goal from the very beginning to make Cobra Kai a show that worked for all audiences.

00:06This is Johnny Lawrence. He and I go way back.

00:09When I started working with William Zapplin, and I called him on the phone, and he's like,

00:14no, I don't want to do conventions. I was just recently in a magazine article,

00:18and I want to say it was like GQ, where he was named 80's biggest dick.

00:23He's like literally the worst bully of all time, because he's a bully that knows karate.

00:28So he's like spin kicking you as he's bullying you.

00:31We'd walk down the street and people would say, hey jackass, hey asshole, you know.

00:36And he was thinking, what did we do? Now we get our redemption story.

00:42My dad said, yeah, they want to do a Cobra Kai show on YouTube.

00:46And I was like, what the hell are they talking about?

00:48A YouTube show based around Karate Kid? Is it a spoof? Is it a comedy?

00:52You have people from all ages because it brings the nostalgia of the 80's from the original movies.

00:57And then the kids in the show that a lot of kids can relate to.

01:02And I literally just got a message from someone saying, Miguel is going to beat your ass.

01:07That was it.

01:09We had a healthy amount of hope and expectation that we would connect with the rest of the fandom.

01:16And we knew that there was a giant fandom out there that was a sleeping dragon.

01:20Cobra Kai! Cobra Kai!

01:34I remember specifically Julia Macchio texting me and being like, have you seen your Instagram numbers?

01:40And I was like, huh? And apparently in the Macchio household, Ralph turns to Julia and goes, she's catapulting.

01:47Then one family came up to me. They had a baby, probably was a year, year and a half.

01:53And his name was Kreese. They called him Kreese.

02:01It felt like overnight and I was like, oh, like everybody knows who we are now. This is wild.

02:17Cobra Kai! Cobra Kai! Cobra Kai!

02:25Oh God. I cannot see that.
