The Keen & Judah Show: Liam agrees with Vítor Pereira, 'Toti is an animal!'

Liam Keen is joined by Jonny Drury to chat about the game that might have just saved Wolves from the drop.

00:00Let's finish on a couple of big positives. At times this season, Wolves have been questioned defensively.

00:06But a superb performance on Saturday. There has been superb performances of late.

00:11At the heart of that, the key to our idea has been Totti Gomez, someone who's been there for quite a while,

00:16really well-liked at Wolves, and another superb defensive display on Saturday.

00:24Vitor Pereira summed it up perfectly after the game. He said,

00:28Totti is an animal. And I don't need to say much more than that. I mean,

00:34for the purposes of the show, I will. But he's a fantastic defender. He's starting to get a

00:39little bit of the love now as well. The fans have got some chants for him, giving him public support.

00:46There's lots of support for him out there when previously in the season. Understandably so,

00:50at times he was getting a lot of flack. It didn't really work for him in a back four.

00:55He struggled. He had a bad start to the season. But in this back five, on that left-hand side,

00:59where he can move over into the left-back positions quite regularly with the way Wolves play,

01:04he's been really impressive. It's similar to last week, really, when we spoke about the Everton game,

01:10that you could talk about Doc and how well he's done. Agbidu has been a fantastic signing.

01:15But for me, out of all of them, and particularly against Southampton,

01:20it was Totti Gomez that stood out. The errors and mistakes have been almost completely cut out.

01:26He's very, very cool, calm and collected. He's quick. He's athletic. He mops up danger,

01:32sniffs out danger. And I think he's so important to the balance of that defense

01:38that Wolves have to address bringing another player in that can play on that left side in

01:42the summer. Because we saw when Totti Gomez was injured around Christmas and New Year time,

01:47how they struggled to replace him. Agbidu did a good enough job on that left side,

01:51but he's much better in the center of that back three. And Totti Gomez brings so much

01:56on that left side. His athleticism is so, so impressive. And it's so difficult to play

02:00against. He's good in the air. He's good in the tackle. He's good carrying the ball out.

02:05Again, Vito Pereira spoke before the game about wanting Doc and Totti on the right and left side

02:11of that back three to be players that break the lines as well, carry the ball forward,

02:16maybe get some crosses in from deep positions. And Totti did that on several occasions against

02:20Southampton and actually caused some problems. He's able to help spark attacks as well as

02:27keep Wolves solid in defense. And so far, I think he's been fantastic. After such a bad start to the

02:33season, he's going in the right direction now under Vito Pereira and he has to be in contention.

02:42He hasn't got it for this international break, but he's got to be in contention

02:46for getting a recall to the Portugal squad at some point because he's been fantastic.
