00:00Mogwai played their first gig at the Kazoo Club.

00:03It was different from anything anybody was doing in Glasgow at that time.

00:11When you'd met them, you would not think that they would make that music.

00:15A band who play largely instrumental, slow moving, sometimes very loud,

00:21but a lot of times very sparse and very quiet.

00:24The emotion that comes through, I remember having my mind totally blown by it.

00:31It was just this massive wall of sound.

00:37It just hit you and I was just gone.

00:40If the stars had a sound, it would sound like this.

00:47And I'm just sitting in the control room like, I can't even believe what I just heard.

00:50This is astonishing.

00:52It's sweet soul music from Scotland.

00:55We've always punched above our weight for a country of five million people.
