Five-year-old Areli Reynolds asked to dress as her mum, Jade, who uses a wheelchair, for World Book Day.  Her dad, John, built a wheelchair from cardboard to complete the costume, inspired by Jade’s autobiography about her life with paralysis.  In the end, Areli chose to go as Belle from Beauty and the Beast instead.  John said it highlighted the lack of disabled Disney princesses, wishing there were more inclusive characters for children like Areli.

00:00So my five-year-old isn't disabled, but she wants to go to World Book Day at school tomorrow as a wheelchair user.

00:05I know what you're thinking. No, she's not a big Stephen Hawking fan.

00:08Her mum is in a wheelchair and we've also written a book together, so she wants to go as her mum.

00:12I've made her a wheelchair and I'm just about to show it to her. I hope she likes it.

00:17Can we just do the wheel spin? No, they can't spin because it's made of cardboard.

00:30Are you ready? Yeah.

00:42I really love these handles, so if you hold it then I can pretend I'm pushing you.

00:47So turn around and put your arms over the side and hope the handle doesn't end up here.
