14 killed in Russian attacks in eastern Ukraine

Russian drone and missile attacks have killed at least 14 people in eastern Ukraine.   CGTN’s Ross Cullen has more.   #Ukraine #Russia

00:00That attack coming overnight, Friday into Saturday, and it was described by the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine as a double-tap attack.

00:08And Volodymyr Zelensky also backed that up, saying there was a deliberate targeting of the rescuers by Russia,

00:15which launched a ballistic missile in the first instance, which slammed into Dobropillia.

00:20And then once emergency services and first responders had arrived, that second ballistic missile hit as well.

00:27Volodymyr Zelensky described that as a, quote, vile and inhumane intimidation tactic often used by the Russians.

00:34He went on to say that there must be an increase in sanctions on Russia.

00:39Everything that helps Putin finance the war must collapse.

00:43He said that such strikes show that Russia's objectives have not changed.

00:48And in fact, just in the last 20 minutes, we got the all clear here in Kiev.

00:52The latest air raid siren that was put in place a little bit earlier on this afternoon

00:57shows that there is increased pressure across the whole country.

01:14And we have had reaction today from the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaya Kalash.

01:19She said that, quote, Putin has no interest in peace. We must step up our military support.

01:24Otherwise, even more civilians will pay the highest price.

01:27And just to bring you up to date, Paul, on the latest in terms of the battlefield inside Russia,

01:32in the Kursk region, where Ukraine has been trying to hold on to territory.

01:35It seized in that lightning offensive inside Russia last year.

01:39Well, reports that those Ukrainian troops are starting to hold on to less and less territory,

01:44being encircled by Russian troops and forces from the DPRK, from North Korea.

01:48Thousands of North Korean troops have been brought to Russia to help the Russian efforts in the ongoing conflict.

01:54But the Ukrainian armed forces have also released a statement saying that approximately 1,000 Russian soldiers

02:00have been killed in the past 24 hours.
