Prime Minister gives an update on ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese gave an update on the ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred earlier this morning.

00:00Right now, very clearly, we need to stick together and continue to look after each other.

00:09The impacts are already being felt and there is worse to come in the hours ahead.

00:15We must remain vigilant.

00:17This is a very serious weather event.

00:21Please do not go outside if that is, at your location, the advice which is there.

00:28Stay out of flood waters.

00:30Do not risk it.

00:32These winds are dangerous as well and be conscious of the fact that debris can fall and can cause

00:39serious harm.

00:42We've done the preparation with you and we'll be with you through this.

00:48At the worst of times, we are seeing once again the best of the Australian character.

00:53We continue to see that in both Queensland and northern New South Wales.

00:58Now while it has been downgraded, very serious risks remain.

01:04So it is important that people do not take this downgrading as a reason for complacency.

01:11It will still bring strong winds, heavy rain, flooding and dangerous conditions across southeast

01:19Queensland and northeast New South Wales over this weekend and in the days beyond.

01:27Now is the time to remain alert, stay inside and look after each other.

01:34Remain safe in your home unless you've been advised to evacuate.

01:39Look after your children.

01:42Flooding is our major concern, particularly in that area in the southern part of Queensland

01:50and in northern New South Wales.

01:53We have grave concerns for a man missing in flood waters.

01:57Police are doing an incredible job continuing that search.

02:01The advice remains, if it's flooded, forget it.

02:11Defence Force personnel are on the ground and have been assisting in preparation.
