Mixed feelings about it. My wife is still a very good looking ( bit older) woman and if a young wannabe stud called her darling and be a wise guy about it I would definitely be upset .
But we know a charming older lady waitress who calls my wife darling all the time and that is perfectly ok to me.
So I guess it’s the context of the situation
