How can parents keep kids safe online?

With children spending more and more time online, we’re asking people around Cardiff how parents can allow kids freedom online, while also keeping them safe.

00:00Actually, there shouldn't be, I mean, there's that much bad dark things online, isn't there?

00:05I mean, we're out playing outside.

00:07I am not a computer person. I do have experience of nephews growing up.

00:13And by, I think, about the age of 17 or 18,

00:17at least one of my nephews had found access to the dark web.

00:23Having a mobile phone is like an umbilical cord.

00:26If you cut it off, it's like, oh, my God, what can we do?

00:29What did we do before that?

00:31Even sending letters now, it's all emails, isn't it? All this rubbish.

00:36So even text-savvy parents, they're going to struggle to stay on top of all the trends.

00:40And it's the age-old situation.

00:43Any lock you build to prevent someone from getting in, someone's going to crack it.

00:48And if they can't crack that lock, they're going to find a way.

00:52I fear, yes, parents should be concerned.

00:56But how do you rebalance the two?
