00:00Logan and Jake Paul are crashing HBO Max with their new reality show Paul American,
00:04billed as unscripted chaos, but the public, they're calling it a scam fest already.
00:09Let's break it down.
00:10Outkick hails it as an unhinged masterpiece,
00:13but Daily Mail says Max users are ready to cancel subscriptions over the new show.
00:17Dropping March 27th, Paul American promises raw Paul Brother energy,
00:22yet YouTube's roasting it hard, with one comment stating,
00:25shame on y'all for giving airtime to these scam artists.
00:28While another critic feels the show features a weak coward and a snake oil salesman,
00:33possibly referring to Jake Paul's decision to allegedly pick boxing opponents with weaker
00:37records rather than facing top tier boxers in his weight class, according to reports,
00:42which would assumingly leave the snake oil salesman comment to Logan Paul
00:46and his recent crypto scam allegations.
00:48According to Prima Law, the allegations against Logan suggest that he made over
00:52$100,000 in profit from one stock by selling it once the price had skyrocketed.
00:57Logan was then forced to apologize for his involvement in a crypto game called CryptoZoo,
01:01which has been shelved, leaving millions of investors out of pocket.
01:05Unfortunately, there is very little support from fans on the release of the new show,
01:09as Instagram comments flooded Jake Paul's announcement
01:12with more dislike and comparisons to the Kardashians.
01:16Reality TV has been around for a while, with the Kardashians running 20 successful seasons on E,
01:21and then was later picked up by Hulu, which just premiered season 6.
01:25Now, with influencers rising to fame and mixing with Hollywood,
01:28it makes sense that Max and other streaming services would recently lean into influencer-led
01:33stories. Hulu features TikTokers Charli and Dixie D'Amelio in the reality show The D'Amelio Show,
01:38which follows their family as they navigate fame and the challenges of being in the public eye,
01:42and has run for three seasons.
01:44And Max has been successful with recent documentaries like An Update on Our Family,
01:48which takes you through the adoption drama surrounding ex-YouTube parents James and
01:53And we can't leave out the TLC show Balan Out Loud, which is available to stream on Max,
01:57leading to more exposure of the show and more commentary around Balan Dupree,
02:01who was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome in 2020,
02:04right before her 18th birthday, according to reports.
02:06And around the same time, Balan started posting on TikTok, and she quickly amassed a following
02:11of devoted fans for her playful, unfiltered videos of a young person enduring the pandemic,
02:16while managing her vocal and motor tics, according to Interview Magazine.
02:20Since Balan's rise to social media fame, many have questioned the authenticity of her Tourette's,
02:24and feel the show may be dramatizing her symptoms for views.
02:27But despite the controversial topics of these shows, according to Variety Magazine,
02:32as of February 24th, more than 14.7 million people have streamed or watched Balan Out Loud
02:38on TLC and Max, making it TLC's most-watched new unscripted series in nearly a year for adults and
02:44women 25 to 54. See, the truth is reality shows featuring people others despise, where viewers
02:51watch just to slam the star of the show, thrive on hate-watching, a key reason shows like The
02:56Kardashians stay so popular. According to Headspace, hate-watching is popular as it can
03:01spark joy from seeing others' missteps, creating a boost to the viewers' ego as they judge them from
03:07afar. And with how long Jake and Logan Paul have been disliked, this makes the hate-watching appeal
03:12even stronger. And at the end of the day, Max doesn't care if people are watching because they
03:16love or hate the show, they just care if people are watching. But what do you think? Drop your
