Director Pippa Thoroughgood's adaptation of Macbeth is being presented by UpStage at the Playhouse.

00:00I would describe this production of Macbeth as brutal, as exciting, thrilling.

00:06It's like a production of Macbeth you've never seen before.

00:08I was really drawn to this idea that every individual is built by their community.

00:13It seems that so many of our leaders are drawn to the concept of power.

00:17And when I look at Macbeth I see that this is a man whose ambition comes from

00:22either a love or a hate of those around him.

00:26I would love audiences to walk away from Macbeth feeling

00:28invigorated and thrilled, like they've been through an exciting experience.

00:32But I also want them to leave questioning what role they might be playing

00:36in the community that they live in.

00:38I love the Upstage program.

00:39I think it's so important for bringing new voices to the theatre community

00:44and also bringing together voices that may not have ever met before.

00:48I think that it's always such an interesting collection.
