MCA urges bringing local council elections back to KL for better governance

00:18currently no state assemblymen in the Malaysian capital.

00:23Elections like this will make Kuala Lumpur's services more accessible.

00:30It's as if other places have state assemblies.

00:35The local council elections can be used to replace the absence of state government.

00:44However, the local council elections will be held under the auspices of the EBKR.

00:53I hope the government will agree to this.

00:56The people who pushed for this are in power today.

01:03Dr Wee said this after attending a Chinese New Year open house at Petaling Street on Sunday.

01:09Malaysia's first local elections were held in Georgetown in 1951, followed by Kuala Lumpur

01:16in 1952. Dr Wee also highlighted the cultural and historical significance of Petaling Street,

01:23also known as Chinatown. He said MCA will continue to help preserve the identity of

01:29Petaling Street, which was once the site of a tapioca flour factory in the late 19th century

01:35and once an important commercial hub of the capital.

01:38I still think that the multilingual society in Malaysia is a sin.

01:45I don't think it's a problem.

01:48That's why I said we should defend it.

01:50If you have a brand, it's just a matter of size.

01:54I see that their brand is the largest in the country, so it's no problem.

01:59This was originally a Chinese street.

02:01When it was first opened, this was the busiest street.

02:06So there's nothing we can't let go of.

02:10They have the spirit of opening a shop, and the spirit of preserving the identity of Petaling Street.

02:13Whether it's a Chinese street or not, we just need to take it down and change it back to Petaling Street.

02:17So we haven't given up yet.

02:40to usher in the Year of the Snake, together with visitors and tourists.
