00:11He said he had been advised by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on the dissolution.

00:15Wong said he then issued a writ of election, with the Elections Department setting nomination

00:20day on April 23 and polling day on May 3.

00:24He said the world is becoming more uncertain and unsettled, and the global conditions that

00:29enabled Singapore's success over the past decades may no longer hold.

00:34He said that is the reason why he had called the election where voters would decide on the

00:39team to lead Singapore.

00:41This will be Singapore's 14th general election since its independence, and the first under

00:46Wong's leadership as Prime Minister.

00:49Wong took over from long-serving Premier Li Xianlong as head of the Ruling People's Action

00:54Party in May last year.

00:56The polls will see 97 lawmakers elected, four more than in 2020.
