00:00The Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, released six Israeli hostages as part of the
00:14seventh prisoner exchange since the beginning of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
00:22In Germany, hundreds take to the streets of Berlin to protest against the far-right hours
00:28before the general election.
00:34And trade unions in Argentina condemn President Jair Milet's decision to transform the National
00:39Bank to a joint stock company.
00:47Hello welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisu Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:52We begin with the news.
01:10Hamas released six Israeli hostages in exchange of 602 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons
01:15in the final swap on the first phase of the ceasefire.
01:18These six are the last from a group of 33 to be freed by Hamas in phase one of the ceasefire,
01:24in effect since January 19.
01:27According to Hamas, 445 of the Palestinians released by Israel had been detained by Israeli
01:32forces during its war on Gaza, and the remainder are dozens who had been serving lengthy sentences,
01:39including life terms.
01:40The fragile ceasefire had been threatened with derailment over the misidentification
01:45of a body released on Thursday as that of Shiri Bibas, who was taken captive with her
01:50two young sons and husband on October 7, 2023.
01:55Late on Friday, Hamas handed over Bibas's body, which her family said had been confirmed
02:00to be hers.
02:03Meanwhile, one of the Israelis released by Hamas kissed two Palestinian resistance fighters
02:10on the forehead, a gesture that was celebrated by the crowd present during the ceremony in
02:15Nuserat.
02:16The three released Israelis appeared smiling, showing good physical condition, greeting
02:21those present before being greeted by representatives of the Red Cross.
02:29Palestinian authorities denounced Israeli genocide in refugee camps in the north of
02:33the West Bank and in the city of Yannin.
02:36Local media denounced that the Israeli army committed extrajudicial executions, demolitions
02:40and forced displacements in Tul Karem refugee camp.
02:44They also pointed out that the aggression against the city of Yannin and its refugee
02:47camp continues, resulting in the murder of at least 27 Palestinians, although it is denounced
02:53that these actions are part of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's regime's
02:57intention to perpetrate more crimes against the Palestinian people.
03:07In Gaza Strip, a third vaccination campaign against polio is underway.
03:11According to the Gaza and Health Ministry, the campaign will be carried out for three
03:14consecutive days so as to vaccinate all children under the age of 10.
03:19Although the local health ministry is leading the initiative, it has asked the United Nations
03:24for support to guarantee the health of all children in Gaza.
03:28Health Authority has also thanked Palestinian media for their support in helping distribute
03:32the necessary information on the vaccination campaign and on the spread of viruses.
03:41And the people of Lebanon prepared for the funeral of Lebanese leader and Hezbollah
03:44Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah after he was assassinated by Israeli forces on September
03:4927, 2024.
03:51Beirut hosts thousands of people, organizations and international media.
03:56During this Saturday, the young Lebanese expressed their respect and love to Nasrallah
04:02by providing food and drinks to the people arriving to the city.
04:05The funeral activities are expected to begin this Sunday, February 23, at the Kamel Shammoun
04:10Sports City Stadium, from where he will be transferred to his grave.
04:18Our souls belong to the Syed and we are walking on his path in his footsteps.
04:23We are deeply heartbroken because we are not with him.
04:26We are in deep pain because we have been orphaned without him, the Syed.
04:30We have now become orphans.
04:34Today we have come to reaffirm and renew our pledge to the master of the resistance, the
04:38martyred Syed, that we will continue, and we will continue stronger than ever before.
04:46The UN Special Envoy reaffirms the call for an immediate ceasefire in the Democratic Republic
04:50of the Congo.
04:52The UN mission in Kinshasa condemns the ongoing aggressions resulting from escalating clashes
04:56between armed groups and the Congolese army.
05:01The UN officials insisted on the search for a safe and dignified solution to deal with
05:05the international community that guarantees respect for human rights.
05:09The Congolese government affirms that the rebels have the support of Rwanda, which facilitated
05:14the control of two cities in South Kivu.
05:17We know we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tiktok
05:24at TELUS or English, there you will be able to find news updates in different formats
05:28and much more.
05:29We'll be right back, stay with us.
05:41Welcome back.
05:42The UN Security Council urged Rwanda to stop supporting the M23 armed group and to withdraw
05:47immediately from Congolese territory without preconditions.
05:51The Council reiterated its call on all parties to reach a ceasefire, as called for by leaders
05:57in Eastern and Southern Africa.
05:59They urged the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda to return without preconditions
06:03in order to achieve a lasting solution to the conflict in the region.
06:07The situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has deteriorated since
06:11January as M23 fighters advance into north and south Kivu provinces, extending the crisis
06:18into Ituri.
06:30The Council took a lot of time to act.
06:34And to act unanimously.
06:37But now the Council has been able to move things forward.
06:42And therefore, on behalf of the government of DRC, and on behalf of all the boys and
06:50girls of the DRC, in particular those from Bunagana in Kamanjola, including Goma, Sake,
07:00Minova, Nyabibwe, Kale, Kvumu and Bukavu, I would like to thank all the members of the
07:08Council.
07:11The Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations Nicolas De Gevrier emphasized
07:15the importance of achieving the complete withdrawal of Rwandan forces.
07:23The Rwandan forces must, without delay, withdraw from Congolese territory as has already been
07:28declared by the United Nations Secretary General, as well as the members of the Security Council.
07:33MONUSCO needs to be able to carry out the mandate for the benefit of the civilian population
07:38without being obstructed in its efforts or its freedom of movement.
07:42This resolution recalls the clear role of the Luanda and the Nairobi processes with
07:46a view to reaching a sustainable political solution hinging on the complete withdrawal
07:50of Rwandan forces and the dismantling of the FDLR.
07:55The Vatican Secretary of State denies a possible resignation of Pope Francis after being hospitalized
08:00for eight days due to bilateral pneumonia.
08:03Cardinal Pietro Parolin described as inappropriate the speculations about the supposed resignation
08:09of the Pope and urged to pray for his health and recovery.
08:12He also assured that the Pope will have to remain in the hospital for the next seven
08:16days until he is cured of his bilateral pneumonia and can continue treatment at his residence.
08:21The doctor in charge of the Gemelli Hospital in Rome, Sergio Alfieri, warned that the Pope
08:27is not out of danger due to the poly-microbiological infection that could pass into the bloodstream
08:33and produce sepsis.
08:35However, he stressed that despite his health condition, the Pope maintains a healthy condition
08:40and a resilient attitude.
08:41The abdominal area is fine, okay?
08:46Because obviously if you do a CT scan of the chest, you also see the abdomen.
08:51So from that point of view, everything is fine.
08:53As for the heart, as I said before, an evaluation was done upon admission.
08:57Another one was performed and others were done with the team of Professor Brizada, who
09:02is the head of cardiology, and he has a strong heart.
09:05When we say that the Pope is fragile, at the same time, he has incredible resilience.
09:10How many others would have endured all these infections with his workload?
09:16In Germany, hundreds of people took to the streets of Berlin to protest against the far
09:20right just hours before the general elections.
09:23Demonstrators took to the streets of the capital to reject hatred and intolerance, which in
09:28their opinion the far-right political party Alternative for Germany represents.
09:32During the demonstration, German authorities deployed hundreds of police officers to stop
09:37the advance of the rally.
09:39Recent polls suggest that the far right will be the second most voted option in the general
09:42elections and will double its results with respect to those obtained in 2021.
09:53On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump fired the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
09:57Air Force General C.Q.
09:58Brown, saying he will nominate Air Force Lieutenant General Dan Cain.
10:03President Donald Trump fired the top U.S. general just before his Secretary of Defense
10:07fired other generals.
10:09This comes amid a campaign to dismantle military leaders who support diversity and fairness
10:14in the military ranks.
10:15Brown was the second Afro-American general to serve as chairman and his public support
10:20of Black Lives Matter made him father for the administration's war against diversity.
10:26Trump says he will appoint Dan Cain, an Air Force Lieutenant General, as the next leader
10:30of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
10:48In Argentina, authorities report several active forest fires outbreaks in the Chubut, Noquen
10:52and Rio Negro regions.
10:54Argentine Air Force continued to put out the flames that razed nearly 2,700 hectares of
10:59forest.
11:00So far, the investigation points to at least three starting points of the fire, which reinforces
11:05the hypothesis that the fires were intentionally set off.
11:09In this sense, authorities affirm that they will get to the facts in order to identify
11:14those responsible.

11:47national bank into a joint stock company.
11:50Through a communique, the Central Workers' Union of Argentina and other organizations
11:54pointed out that the privatization of the national bank is another scam by Millet's
11:58administration.
11:59They also urged the blocs of both chambers of Congress to protect the assets of Argentinians
12:04and revoke the power of the law of basis before it harms the nation.

12:13cryptocurrency scam.

12:34of 300 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the health sector area of Sao Paulo reported
12:41an incidence of 303 cases per 100,000.

13:09month of January alone.
13:11Crimes occurred in 21 districts in eight provinces, including Huayas, where 14 children and adolescents
13:16were killed.
13:17Most of the crimes were executed with firearms.
13:20So far this year, there are over a thousand violent deaths reported in Ecuador, despite
13:24President Enoboa having declared a state of internal armed conflict on the pretext of
13:29fighting organized crime.
13:36And in Honduras, the Public Prosecutor's Office has carried out several house raids
13:40north of the country to capture drug traffickers wanted by the United States.
13:44Honduran authorities deployed at least 15 operations in communities in the Colón department
13:49aimed at dismantling criminal gangs.
13:52Police has offered a reward for any lead on the whereabouts of several members of criminal
13:56organizations included in the list provided by the United States.
14:00Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office has restated its commitment to fight organized crime and
14:05Honduran cartels.
14:11And the government of Nicaragua paid tribute to the general of free men and national hero
14:16Augusto Cesar Sandino on the 91st anniversary of his assassination.
14:20Sandino is considered a reference in the defense of Nicaraguan sovereignty and national dignity.
14:26President Daniel Ortega highlighted Sandino's work and his unstoppable struggle for peace
14:31among nations.
14:33Likewise, during the event, Army General Julio Cesar Áviles Castillo was sworn in as head
14:38of the Nicaraguan Army for the 2025-2031 term.

14:51international order by participating in the meeting of G20.

14:58for international law as a pillar for global stability.
15:02The delegation emphasized the need to strengthen multilateral mechanisms for the peaceful settlement
15:07of disputes and promote respect for sovereignty and urged the international community to prioritize
15:12the search for sustainable solutions to reduce inequality and strengthen food security.
15:31In Angola, preparations for the Luanda Carnival 2025 are progressing, one of the most awaited
15:36and celebrated festivities in the country.
15:38This year, the festival will celebrate the 50th anniversary of national independence
15:43with the participation of 39 groups.
15:45For the first time, the groups from the new province of Icolo and Bengo will be included.
15:50In spite of being the largest cultural manifestation in the country dating back to 1857, there
15:55is currently a growing concern about the event due to the increase of cholera cases, with
16:00more than 4,500 infected and 163 deaths.
16:09In Brazil, Carnival doesn't officially start for another week, but hundreds of thousands
16:14of people are out on the streets this weekend anyway.
16:17Our correspondent Brian Meir has more.
16:21Hundreds of thousands of people have come out to the streets in many of Brazil's major
16:25cities including Recife, Salvador, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo to participate
16:34in the last weekend of traditional pre-carnival parties.
16:38Carnival begins officially at the stroke of midnight from Friday to Saturday of next week,
16:43meaning it's less than a week away, and people are already getting in the mood, coming out
16:48on the streets, dancing, putting on costumes, dancing behind their favorite kinds of drum
16:52beats like maracatu, samba, frevo here in Recife and Olinda as well.
16:58And it's really like the last weekend when people can go out and not be completely overwhelmed
17:04by the huge crowd.
17:05So it's more popular with families this weekend, but in general people are just getting really
17:09into the carnival spirit this year, and Telesur is going to be broadcasting from three different
17:15locations in Brazil during Carnival.
17:18Here in Recife and Olinda, which has the oldest and most traditional street carnival in Brazil,
17:22Salvador, which has the largest street carnival, and Rio de Janeiro, which is a world-iconic
17:27city for carnival because of its Escola de Samba.
17:30In addition, we'll be broadcasting from six other countries, including Trinidad and Tobago,
17:35Venezuela and Uruguay, which all have long carnival traditions of their own.
17:40So stay tuned for Telesur.
17:42Our carnival coverage begins next Friday.
