Ex-RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das appointed Principal Secretary to PM Modi

Former RBI governor Shaktikanta Das was on Saturday appointed as the second Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.    Former IAS officer PK Mishra has been serving as PM Modi's first Principal Secretary since September 11, 2019.    Das's appointment will be "co-terminus" with the prime minister's term or until further orders, according to a central government circular.

00:13appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

00:17Karishma is getting in more details on that story, joining us at this point in time.

00:23Karishma, I would say rather unexpected also by this appointment.

00:28It is a second Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, so essentially he has two

00:32Principal Secretaries now.

00:34Well, absolutely right Sneha, in fact, this is definitely an unexpected announcement,

00:41especially coming on Mr. Das.

00:43Mr. Das, the previous appointment where he was earlier a member of the 15th Finance Commission,

00:50also served as India's Sherpa to G20, and as a retired IAS officer when he was appointed

00:58as the 25th Governor of RBI, we did realise that after his stint as the Finance Secretary

01:05he's been chosen to end it sweetly with his position as the RBI Governor.

01:12But being appointed in the Prime Minister office, certainly the big task for him is

01:19going to be taking forward the Vixit Bharat Plan, and most importantly, Prime Minister's

01:25recent remark of the Deregulation Commission that likely former RBI Governor Dr. Das is

01:32going to be overlooking as.

01:34Let's not forget that he has played a very important role as a member of the 15th Finance

01:41Commission and also as a key policy maker in the position of Secretary DEA.
