Berlin is on high alert after a stabbing near the Holocaust memorial and a foiled attack on the Israeli embassy. A Spanish tourist was seriously injured in a knife attack near the U.S. embassy, and police have arrested a suspect, though no details on the motive have been released.
Separately, an 18-year-old Russian man, reportedly from Chechnya, was arrested for allegedly planning an attack on the Israeli embassy. Authorities believe the plot was politically motivated. The decisive tip-off for the attack is reported to have come from abroad, with an Islamist motive currently being investigated.
The incidents come just two days before Germany’s federal elections.
