🎼Sly & The Family Stone...Live In 1️⃣9️⃣6️⃣9️⃣ Before Woodstock 📅 "Sly & The Family Stone Are The Greatest To Have Ever Done It In Music. After listening to many Sly and The Family Stone records during their peak from 1968-1973, I truly believe he's the best to have ever done it, I know this is all going to be subjective. But hear me out. The bands impact on music is incredible, the impact they made on funk, soul, r&b even rock, breaking barriers by having a interracial band, a true pioneer that fused everything together and created that funk sound pushing barriers, the amount of top legendary names that were inspired by him and the band such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Handcock, EWF, Miles Davis, Sade, George Clinton and many more. Their prime ended in 1973, every musician that peaked after Sly and The Family Stone's heyday had come to an end in 73. You can all trace it all back to their work which pre dates those who started after Sly. You can hear every little sound that Sly could be credited for. Larry Graham being such a huge part of the band with his slap bass technique, Rose Stone, Vaetta Stone and Cynthia Robinson with their ad-libs, drums, keyboards and pianos, Greg Errico being such a big part of breaking down barriers as well (with the rest of them obviously) and a great drum player, Jerry Martini same thing applies but with the Saxophone, Freddie Stone an underrated vocalist that blended so well with his older brother Sly. We get to Sly Stone... a true mozart of the last 60 years of popular music, they were way ahead of their time that band. I'm a Gen X baby so I wasn't there to see this (in fact I discovered them from my dad who was born in 1948 so obviously baby boomers were the age demographic for the bands peak from 68-73 since they were old enough for that period that was short but revolutionary) I can't imagine how rock and roll will be without them."
