Another plane crash in 2025 in Toronto is grabbing eyeballs. Why are plane crashes becoming so frequent this year and how safe is air travel after all?

00:00Another day, another plane crash. This time in Toronto. A Delta plane crashed on Pearson

00:08Airport's Snowy Runway, flipped and turned turtle on the afternoon of February 17, 2025.

00:14Nearly 80 passengers, including crew, hung on to their lives, hanging upside down like

00:19bats.

00:20I was just in a plane crash! Oh my God!

00:23In what could have been disastrous, miraculously, everyone survived, with 17 people sustaining

00:28injuries, some very severe.

00:31But why are aviation disasters suddenly becoming so common on our newsfeeds?

00:35The US alone has seen four deadly aviation accidents in 2025, and we are not even through

00:41two months yet.

00:42This comes just days after the worst commercial aircraft crash in 16 years in Northern America,

00:47when 67 people died due to a collision between an American Airlines flight and an Army Black

00:52Hawk helicopter, on January 29, 2025.

00:56The reason? Human error.

00:58And a misunderstanding between air traffic controllers and Black Hawk pilots.

01:01While chances of human error in this industry are few, how many times is too many?

01:06Jan 31, a medical plane crashed in Philadelphia, killing seven people and causing a big fire.

01:12A bird strike or engine failure was suspected.

01:15February 6, a plane vanished in Alaska, only to be found wrecked with all 10 passengers

01:20dead.

01:21February 10, two aircrafts ran into each other on the runway in Arizona, leading to one casualty.

01:27So how safe is air travel, really?

01:29According to the 2024 Transportation Statistics Report, air travel is actually the safest

01:35form of transportation known to exist, with car and bike travel being the riskiest, with

01:39maximum incidents occurring on motor roads.

01:42In fact, in 2023, there were zero deaths from commercial airline crashes in the US.

01:47Airplanes are still one of the biggest marvels of modern engineering, with many divisions

01:51working together to ensure safety.

01:53It is one of the most heavily regulated industries in the world, with stringent safety protocols.

01:59Planes have seats made of fireproof materials that can withstand 16 times the force of gravity,

02:04and an almost endless number of checks and balances.

02:08Statistically, airplanes are much safer than cars, where the likelihood of an accident

02:12is quite high.

02:13Unlike cars, planes are also equipped with multiple backup systems in case some fail.

02:18These safety features easily surpass even those of the most sophisticated cars.

02:23Airplanes also accumulate nearly 1,500 flying hours to become a first officer, and the training

02:28is nowhere as easy as securing a car driving license.

02:31With all this and more, what is going on in Northern America in 2025, with not one but

02:35four deadly aviation accidents?

02:37A mere coincidence, or something more?
