00:00We're introducing Ronan's Law in memory of Ronan Cander because too many young
00:05lives are being lost to knife crime. We know in that case that one of
00:12the killers was able to buy so many different lethal weapons online and
00:17that's why this is a major crackdown on online knife sales in order to take
00:22lethal weapons out of the hands of children. Well we need this new
00:26stronger double age verification checks but also we're consulting on new
00:31registration requirements for online sellers because at the moment there are
00:36more checks on sales of alcohol and cigarettes to children than there are on
00:42knives. That is just wrong. We've got to strengthen this system including having
00:47a new policing unit that can go after the online loopholes, these lethal
00:52loopholes to make sure that children can be safe. Well I think we've seen the
00:57work that Ronan Cander's mum has done and the work that Pooja has done. She
01:01has been the most incredible campaigner for her son Ronan but also for other
01:07children across the country. Over the last eight years we have seen these
01:11rises in knife crime among our children, among our teenagers. We have to have the
01:17stronger action. It's part of this government's commitment and our plan for
01:22change to halve knife crime over the next 10 years but that has to start with
01:26our children.
