Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Washington now has a "better understanding" of Moscow’s stance following the first high-level US-Russia talks since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking after the meeting in Riyadh, Lavrov called the talks “useful” and confirmed both sides agreed to establish a process for resolving the Ukraine conflict and easing diplomatic restrictions.
He also warned that any NATO troop deployment to Ukraine, even under different flags, would be unacceptable.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he believes Moscow is ready for "serious" negotiations and that Washington is seeking a "fair and sustainable" resolution.
