00:00Hello everyone this is Anjana Kumar. I'm here at the Gulf News EduFair which is taking place at
00:05the Conrad Hotel in Sheikh Zayed Road until June 18th. We have 30 universities participating this
00:11year at EduFair. It is a great platform for parents, teachers and students to come here
00:16and understand what's happening in the education industry and to see where a child is best fit to
00:23go in for a university. So if you have a child at home looking to get into a university then EduFair
00:29is the place. We are here to contribute to the educational sector in all senses especially the
00:34EduFair of Gulf News. We showcase our capabilities, our accreditations and how we go into the market
00:42and we meet the students and the parents and we discuss many things, the future of the students.
00:48Sometimes we even advise them to go somewhere else if we don't have that discipline. At the
00:52end there's a very excellent platform for the faculty members, for the universities,
00:57for the students, for the parents and for the industry. This event today is an important
01:03outlet for universities like ourselves to exhibit the programmes and talk about the
01:07the leading edge and cutting edge modes of delivery and also pedagogies that are introducing
01:14and as we think about the future and particularly where we are now in the fourth
01:18industrial revolution and preparing students and graduates for the future workplace we need to make
01:23sure that our pedagogies are aligned, our teaching methods are aligned to those needs and of course
01:27that means making sure that not just that the subject areas are appropriate but also the skills
01:33that we're developing within the students are really critical and particularly at ZU we're
01:39heading towards completely interdisciplinary programmes recognising that many of the
01:44world's problems that we face today need interdisciplinary solutions and skills-based
01:50approaches. So I'm excited to be here to be able to share a little bit about my story and hopefully
01:55inspire and empower younger generations to feel comfortable with who they are and the decisions
02:00that they're making as they go into that big transition into university and you know it can
02:06be quite overwhelming at times so I hope that by sharing parts of my story it helps. We're very
02:13excited we had a lot of people coming in and visiting us at the booth and we're very happy to
02:18be consistently participating in Gulf News. It's one of the great platforms where international
02:23students and local students come together to know about the programme that is offered at the Zayed
02:26University and we're looking forward to meet you all. I came from India I did an engineering diploma
02:33in electronics and instrumentation so then I after that I came back to Dubai so I started
02:38working for my dad's company which is an instrument instrumentation based company
02:43so in that company I had I'd seen both the both courses I've seen the engineering side of things
02:49and the business side of things and out of those two things I chose the business side
02:53so I came to EduFair here to see what else can I do in business what are the other scopes
02:59and courses like accounting finance or management. So far it's been great I've got a lot more
03:04information than I got online checking out the fees checking out the campuses where they are
03:09and how big they are and what else they can offer on campus. As a parent a good university
03:15proximity also is important and accreditation also so I'm looking at all those things for him.
03:24The Gulf News EduFair has been a great success from very interesting panel discussions like on
03:30the first day we had Jessica Smith a Paralympian talking about why students should feel it's okay
03:37to be not okay. There have been numerous one-to-one interactions with 30 universities
03:45which took part at the Gulf News EduFair all in all all of this made this a great success.
03:51So if you missed the EduFair this time don't worry we have another edition coming up
03:56and we'll keep you posted so if you have a child that is looking to get into university
04:02then just head to the EduFair next time. For now it's a bye this is Anjana Kumar for Gulf News.
