"We must defend ourselves" says France FM at Munich Security Conference

“We are facing a new situation after living for decades in a form of carelessness regarding our own security," says French Defence Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. “Which was in some way implicitly outsourced to our American partners,” he adds. "We must defend ourselves."

00:20What is clear is that if we want to prepare ourselves for the heavy threats that are accumulating

00:26on the French and European skies, then we must give ourselves the means to defend ourselves.

00:32And we must not hide it, it will mean efforts that we have lost the habit of making.

00:39We will have to face difficult choices, complicated decisions, perhaps even sacrifices that we

00:46did not expect until now, if indeed this security must be ensured.
