00:00You said you love emotional scenes more than action maybe, why is that?
00:03More than any other scene.
00:04Why is that? Why do you like making people cry?
00:07Because I'm an emotional guy.
00:12Good evening, this is Manjusha Radhakrishnan from Gulf News.
00:15I'm so happy to speak to the Bollywood's man of the moment,
00:18Karthik Aryan.
00:19You have been on a roll.
00:20This man has reignited box office success with Bhool Bhoola Yaar 2.
00:24In fact, I think long before Pathan did,
00:27you came into the circle, kind of did your bit as well.
00:30Thank you. I mean, I'm just glad that the way Bhool Bhoola Yaar 2 last year
00:38ignited the fire or ignited or, you know, we had house full boards outside the theatres
00:43and everybody was so happy with the way Bhool Bhoola Yaar performed
00:46because there was no other film which was working at that point of time.
00:50And I'm just glad to be a part of that film.
00:53Then, of course, 2022 has been a great year for me
00:57with Freddie also working on OTTs and theatre mein Bhool Bhoola Yaar 2.
01:01And now I'm looking forward to the release of Shehzada,
01:04which has got some kind of buzz, which I'm looking forward to.
01:08I hope that this also works.
01:09Right. And you're also a producer of the movie.
01:11What made you invest in this project as opposed to other movies you've done?
01:15You have more money now, let me guess.
01:18Some bank account is better now.
01:20More money than a few days before.
01:24But I think it's more to do with, I'm looking at this film as an actor only.
01:30I have gotten this opportunity to produce it because of,
01:34there were some issues, there was some financial crisis.
01:37And because of that, I had to let go of my fees.
01:42And then the co-producers, they graciously, you know,
01:46asked me to become a co-producer, become a producer on this film.
01:50And that's how it all started.
01:52All the hard work and everything is being done by everyone else and every producer.
01:58And I'm just acting like an actor right now.
02:00But one thing is that during COVID, all actors did unconventional things.
02:03Like you right now, turning a producer to help your project.
02:06Is that the way forward?
02:08Like actors are everything.
02:09100%. You have to be, I'm all in for my films.
02:12You have to stand up when there are certain problems in your own film.
02:16And that's the way forward also.
02:18I'm glad it all worked out pretty well for all of us.
02:21And yeah, whenever something happens to my film,
02:25I'll be the first one to actually do my bit for my film.
02:29I love it.
02:30I think any producer or team is lucky to have somebody who's invested in it.
02:33Not just for money, but emotionally.
02:34Yes.
02:35You said you love emotional scenes more than action, maybe.
02:38Why is that?
02:39More than any other scene.
02:40Why is that?
02:40Why do you like making people cry?
02:42Because I'm an emotional guy.
02:45You don't believe that nonsense?
02:46Really?
02:47I really am.
02:49But I don't know, it's something to do with, you know, that genre of...
02:57It's the most vulnerable emotion, you know.
03:00And I feel it when, I don't know how, but I just feel it more.
03:06And I feel like doing those scenes more.
03:08And it's just that.
03:09And maybe somewhere down the line, because I'm an emotional guy, generally.
03:15So maybe that's the reason I like doing emotional scenes.
03:17Right, right.
03:18Shehzada seems to be an action return of the masala genre, you know.
03:21Like it reminded me of Amitabh Bachchan's old movies.
03:23It's like some masala.
03:24Was that your point?
03:25Yeah, that kind of vibe.
03:27I mean, these are the films which were made during 70s or 90s, you know.
03:32And we have, there's a void of such films right now.
03:35And I think, thankfully, people are really going in for such movies.
03:39And Shehzada will fill that void.
03:42And when I got the, you know, when I got the opportunity to play Bantu's character
03:47in this film, I just grabbed onto it.
03:50Is Bantu your way of reinventing the wheel?
03:52Because somewhere I feel I've not seen you in this space at all.
03:55Yeah, it's always a great thing to reinvent yourself.
03:58And I've been trying to do that with A Dhamaka, with...
04:02Bull Bullet 2 also was a horror comedy for me for the first time.
04:06Then A Dark Thriller with Freddy.
04:08And now again back to Shehzada, which is a mass entertainer.
04:13So I'm trying to reinvent myself.
04:16And it's not just about reinventing.
04:17It's about getting excited for projects, getting excited for films and characters.
04:22And tomorrow is Valentine's Day.
04:23This could be a perfect date movie, do you think?
04:26It is a perfect date movie.
04:28You will really enjoy this.
04:31This is coming during the Valentine's week now.
04:34So I hope that all the valentines, all the boyfriends and girlfriends,
04:40they go together, the couples go together.
04:42Or even if you're single, you're going to enjoy it.
04:44Because it's a complete package.
04:46And you'll get all the emotions, you'll get all the drama.
04:50And yeah, I mean, I hope you guys enjoy it during this Valentine's week and further.
04:55Right, last question.
04:56Even Pathan was releasing and you guys decided to do it.
05:00I thought that was a lot of camaraderie between two...
05:03You know, you guys are fighting for the industry, I thought.
05:05I mean, exactly.
05:07I mean, it's a big, big success, Pathan.
05:11And all of us in the industry, we are really happy with the success.
05:17And I'm a big fan of Shahrukh sir.
05:20So I was all the more happy with Shahrukh sir and Salman sir together,
05:24to see them on screen together as well.
05:26So we, I mean, it doesn't...
05:29And the way, you know, this film got into that wave zone, where...
05:37It was crazy fire, like, it just went off the park.
05:40It just went out of the park.
05:42So it doesn't make sense to release a film at that time.
05:45And there's no...
05:48You know, I'm just happy that every film should just work.
05:51Yeah, brilliant.
05:52You're a smart producer already.
05:53Look at you making all the decisions.
05:55I love it.
05:56Congratulations, Karthik, once again, for your debut production.
05:59And like you said, buy the tickets.
06:01Yes, please buy the tickets.
06:01And say no to piracy.
06:02Yeah.
