A fluent 129-run stand between openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (75 off 44 balls) and senior pro Faf du Plessis (56 off 38 balls) set Chennai Super Kings on course to a thumping seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first match for both teams in New Delhi.

00:00Because they have Sir Ravindra Jadeja. Mind you, they have Sir Ravindra Jadeja.
00:04So Sir makes up for everybody.
00:14Hi guys and welcome to Straight Back with Mr Cricket, UAE and Golf News.
00:18We're here once again with Anish Sajjan and Gautam Bhattacharya, who's our man in India.
00:24And also with Anish's son, Sahil. We're here to talk about Sunrisers against Chennai Super Kings.
00:32Goodness knows what Sunrisers need to do to get a win these days. I mean,
00:34it's just getting really tough for those guys. But first of all, let's say hi to Anish.
00:40Hi Matt. Hi Mr Gautam. Hi Sahil. Hello to all our beautiful Golf News community. As always,
00:46I say that before the match, make sure to log on to your favourite page, Golf News.
00:51Predict the winner and you walk away with two beautiful jackets,
00:54as well as three months of subscription. Matt?
00:57Yes. Thanks. Just as I was saying there, the Sunrisers, they posted a total that would have won
01:04probably at least half of the game so far in the IPL this season. 1-7-1 for six. Warner smashes
01:11a half century. Pandey smashes a half century. Kane comes in again and contributes. They still
01:17end up losing by an absolute thrashing. What do they need to do? Poor guys.
01:23Couple of things, Matt. First of all, Warner was not confident that they could chase down
01:28because they had five matches where they were chasing where they had lost four. So going into
01:33this game, even though he knew the wicket was a bit tacky to begin with, he decided to bat first.
01:39And then when the dew comes in, batting becomes easy. So when he was batting,
01:42strangely it was a strange sort of innings where you scored 55, rather 57 or 55 balls.
01:48That's not the Warner we know. So that has hurt them overall. Secondly, at one stage in 18 overs,
01:54they were only 138. So they were not even above 7.5. It's just that the push given by Williamson
02:01and a little bit by Jadhav that they ended up scoring 171. Okay, you might debate that yesterday
02:06RCB defended, but they don't have a bowling attack like RCB to defend against CSK or all
02:15guns blazing and the platform given by the openers set it up and there was no looking back. And in
02:21the end, winning with nine balls to spare, very clinical. And obviously, Gautam, that opening
02:29stand in the chase was something to admire with Rituraj and Faf. Oh, yeah. I think, I mean,
02:35firstly, as Parizwai said, I mean, it was a slightly ambiguous decision on part of Warner.
02:43They were known to be very good chasers at one point, but this year, I mean, this was the
02:49wicket where they could have afforded to chase. They didn't. And also, the aid of the dew, number
02:53one. Number two, Rituraj Gaikwad was absolutely a class act. I think this guy's
02:5975 will rate somewhere up there with that particular century, which we saw
03:05some time back. I mean, it was so classy, full of cricketing shots. Amazing.
03:13And Faf, he did not do bad either. Yeah, I mean, see, he seems to be getting
03:20better with these Chennai guys. I mean, he seems to be getting better with age.
03:25I mean, the way he was hitting the ball today, you could make that there's a man
03:30who's so sure about what he's doing. And you know, that long between long on and long off
03:35the place which he patrols, he doesn't let go anything. That catch of Manish Pandey was a gem.
03:42Fabulous. And Sahil, hi to you. Obviously, one of the other things that I observed,
03:49I might be wrong, but I noticed that Shatish seemed to be very expensive with the ball
03:53for Sunrisers as well. He was shipping 15 runs and over. Did that really damage the
04:03when they were really trying to get into the, to slow down the run rate of Chennai, shall we say?
04:11Don't blame him only. He's a new player. I mean, yeah, he went for 45 runs in three hours, but
04:17no one bowled well today. Khalil was going for runs. For the first time in my life,
04:20I saw Rashid Khan getting hit. Last two games, he's been going for four hours. He's been
04:25conceding 30 runs in four hours. I've never seen him concede more than 25 runs. So, you know,
04:30today, no one had their day in the bowling. Weak bowling lineup, unfortunately, I have to say.
04:34There's no leader in their bowling lineup. You know, they had Natarajan. He got ruled out.
04:40Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, I don't know. He's not fit till now. So, you know, they must be panicking
04:44because they don't have a leader. Again and again, they cannot depend on Rashid Khan. Like,
04:47how the Mumbai Indians depend on Bumrah? I think they're depending on Rashid Khan way too much,
04:52you know. Like, they don't have a leader. Okay. So, alarm bells going there. So,
04:57just to take on that point, Anas, do the Sunrisers look as though they're going to be
05:02doomed here now? I mean, are they, did they write the season off? Is there any way back for them?
05:09No. They still have a chance, Math. You see, there are 10 games to go. At the moment,
05:14okay, they are with just one solitary win. So, they are with two points. Even if they win
05:19out of the 10 games, 7 games, which is 70% of the games, they can still go through with 16 points.
05:25It's a matter of picking at the right time. What has been hampering them is the middle order.
05:30Now, today, they definitely got in Pandya. But we felt that Warner Lenings was a bit of a
05:37mixed match where he was too slow. They have to ensure that the top four have to back themselves
05:43to chase down the target. And a little bit of support, if they can get from the middle order,
05:48the guys like the Samads and the Shankars, probably they can, you know, give the opposition
05:55a stiff fight. But otherwise, it looks bad for Sunrisers, I'm afraid, with the bowlers injured.
06:01Yeah, looking grim. And Gautam, obviously, just to go to the flip side, Chennai,
06:08they've got a right spring in their step now. Are they going to fancy their chances year on in?
06:13Very much. I mean, see, when I wrote about them, that as a side whom we can bank for a turnaround,
06:20I didn't think that things would go so well for them. I mean, as I said in the last game,
06:26that they filled up their gaps. And this is the Chennai whom we know, I mean,
06:31today, when they were showing the batting order, then we factored in that, okay, after
06:36even if Moeen gets out, then you've got Suresh Raina, then you've got Amrithi Raidu, then you've
06:41got Ravindra Jadeja. And you've got Sam Curran, who's, you know, turned out to be one of the
06:47best all-rounders in a space of two seasons. So this is the Chennai whom we know. Definitely,
06:53I will count them in for the playoffs. It's still early days, but definitely for the playoffs and
07:00from there. I'll just add one point to it, Matt. This is the Chennai team reminding of the 2018
07:07when they had come back after that ban for a couple of years, and they look the team to beat,
07:12mind you. And Sahil, I'm obviously you were talking about the bowling lineup for Sunrisers.
07:18Do Chennai have the bowling leadership there to complement that batting lineup?
07:25Honestly, I think I don't fancy Chennai's bowling. They are not a great bowling side,
07:32to be honest, Chennai. I think my dad will be knowing that how much I do not like Chennai's
07:37bowling. That is their weak factor. Yes, they have been winning non-stop five games in a row.
07:42Their batting is fantastic of Chennai. Let's not deny that. They have a fantastic batting lineup.
07:47But they don't have great bowlers. Shardul Thakur, I think every match,
07:52he's been going up for 40 runs. Sam Curran, he's all right, but not great. You know what I'm saying?
07:58Deepak Chowdhury, he's got two four-wicket hauls in this tournament. He's not the greatest. He's
08:04good. He's good when the ball is swinging. Sahil, they have Sir Ravindra Jadeja. Mind you,
08:08they have Sir Ravindra Jadeja. Sir makes up for everybody.
08:13That guy, he's a package to them. He's a real package. But also, he can get hit. Everyone
08:21in Chennai, they don't have a special bowler. Mumbai have a special bowler like Bumrah.
08:26Sunrise have a Rashid. Chennai don't have a special, special bowler.
08:30So we'll give the name of the team as Sir Ravindra Jadeja plus CSK as one team.
08:35Ten other guys.
08:41Okay. That was getting quite feisty. Okay, we'll look ahead. We've got a doubleheader tomorrow.
08:48We've got Mumbai against Rajasthan. Again, a top versus bottom clash. And also, we have Delhi
08:55against KKR. First of all, Anis, how do you see Mumbai looking to get back to winning ways?
09:02Well, they will be happy, first of all, getting out of Chennai, where they lost three games.
09:05They couldn't accelerate. Especially, their scoring rate in the last five overs was 7.5 runs
09:12compared to what they had last year, where they were scoring 12 or 13 in the last five overs.
09:16That, they will hope that they can push off that rut with Pollard and Pandya scoring.
09:20And mind you, when they're playing against RR, both teams are at 4 points. So at the moment,
09:24there's not much difference. On paper, Mumbai looks the stronger side. But you never know if
09:28Sanju Samson or Butler, and I have seen always Butler turning up against Mumbai. So mark my words,
09:34Butler is the man, Mumbai needs to be wary of. So even a depleted Rajasthan can still give them a
09:40fight? Sure. We shall see. And Gautam, we'll just turn to you then. Delhi, again, after coming
09:49after that one run loss, they'll be looking to get right back in it against KKR tomorrow?
09:54Yeah, Delhi, we'll see. They are a more compact side than KKR. Only thing is,
10:03they won't be getting Ravi Ashwin. That does make a difference in terms of experience and
10:07bowling in the powerplay, if need be. Also, they kept their faith on Simran Hetmar,
10:15and who eventually delivered. So that number five spot is slotted. And Steve Smith, I mean,
10:21he's not looking very good, but he's willing to play that, you know, ugly game, and try and
10:29rotate the strike and anchor the batting. So that makes a difference, you know, because he's too
10:34classy a player, and he's a big game player. So I would think that, you know, the odds are
10:41a little in favor of Delhi against KKR. Okay, and Sahil, we'll come to you. You obviously are
10:49very good at backing the wrong horse. Who do you think will be the two winners tomorrow?
10:59Sahil?
11:00Oh, he's not. He's not talking to me anymore.
11:06Yeah, yeah. Go ahead. He asked you.
11:09I'm going to be backing the Mumbai Indians, you know, come on, they're still a world-class team.
11:14So, I mean, Rajasthan, even their bowling is nothing great, to be honest. They don't have
11:18Joff Raj in that team also. You know, he's ruled out. So, I mean, they also don't have a great
11:23bowling lineup. Their batting, if Joss Butler fires, I guess it's good for them. But, you know,
11:29I still back Mumbai Indians, come on, let's be honest here. And the second game, KKR-Delhi game,
11:37I think I'll back KKR to, you know, try to beat them.
11:41All right. So guaranteed Rajasthan and Delhi victories tomorrow then. Cool.
11:45Great, guys. Thanks very much for your chats. I'm only joking, Sahil.
11:52And guys, thanks very much for listening in, as usual. And please don't forget to log on to
11:58our Facebook and predict your winner for every single match. So there's two tomorrow, and you
12:03get a chance to win one of these tops and three months of new subscription. Thanks very much for
12:07listening, guys. Take care. See you guys. Bye.
