00:00Hi guys and welcome to Straight Back with Golf News and Mr Cricket UAE.
00:13We just watched an absolute classic.
00:16We watched Chennai take out Delhi in the most dramatic fashion, I think, in the last over
00:23a year.
00:24And it was up to no one else other than Mr MS Dhoni himself to put the icing on the cake,
00:30shall we say.
00:31But first of all, we'll go over to Anas to say hello and then we'll go around the table.
00:37Thank you, Matt.
00:38Thank you to all of you for being patient with me.
00:40It took me almost half an hour for a distance of 10 minutes, but nonetheless, hello, Shyam.
00:45Hello, Satish.
00:46I'm sorry for Maaz and a beaming Arjun.
00:50Great match.
00:52All the CSK fans were voting for MS and he answered everybody's prayers by playing a
01:00knock we were all dreaming for since the last two years, reminded of MS Dhoni of the past.
01:05Shyam, can you quickly just run us through that?
01:09I mean, they lost four in a row.
01:12That's what you call nice timing to get back in form.
01:14Come again, Matt?
01:18When you lose four in a row, that's really nice timing for CSK to get back in form.
01:23No, I would discount those losses simply because CSK are what you call, they have a huge big
01:33match temperament.
01:34When it comes to crunch matches, they really are on top because they've been there so many
01:39times.
01:40And Satish and I were saying, looking at the stats, this will be CSK's ninth final.
01:46So they've been there, done that.
01:48So there's no sweat for them.
01:50So it's just another day in the park.
01:53Absolutely.
01:54Okay.
01:55And Arjun, we can't keep that smile off your face.
01:59Everybody says that Dhoni's an old man, but now I think let's get him back in the India
02:05squad, you know?
02:06How did he do tonight for you in that cameo role?
02:11I think he did excellent.
02:15He did it perfectly, the six at the end, the cherry on the top.
02:20I hope this season ends with Chennai winning.
02:24Just like Sachin was carried in the 2011 World Cup, Dhoni will be carried by the CSK team.
02:32And I hope that will be a great retirement venue for Dhoni.
02:38Plus, I also have one more thing.
02:41I know it was Dhoni who won us the match.
02:45But was it actually Dhoni who won us the match?
02:48Because Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa played excellent.
02:53And I was reading something a few minutes ago, which was saying that Dhoni carries CSK
03:01to victory.
03:02I'm like, that's true, but didn't Gaikwad and Uthappa do all the heavy lifting?
03:10I think Dhoni just gets all the credit.
03:12That's the point I'm trying to make.
03:13Are you really meaning what you're saying, Arjan?
03:15Come on.
03:16Sometimes.
03:17I'm not saying all the time.
03:20You need a finisher and he finished the game.
03:22So accept that, brother, son.
03:25I think in a day like today, you give Dhoni his moment in the spotlight.
03:28That's what I'm saying.
03:29Gaikwad and Uthappa have got many years ahead of them.
03:33Maz, sorry, we'll come to you now.
03:36DC are going to have to do it the hard way now, yeah?
03:40Definitely.
03:41I mean, it was a very easy chance for DC to get in the finals because I would say it
03:50was very disappointing by Rishabh.
03:53He played a captain's knock while batting.
03:55Definitely an amazing innings.
03:57But towards the end of the second innings, it came down to captaincy.
04:01It was Dhoni's captaincy, his finisher and finishing of the game as he did today.
04:07I would never give any other bowler other than Rabada the last over.
04:12Even if Tom Curran had two made-in-overs, even a hat-trick before that, I would still
04:16go with Rabada because experience is what matters.
04:19And the experience Dhoni had, finishing of the game in style, that's where we lost the
04:23match.
04:24Poor captaincy.
04:25I mean, Rishabh Banth has been a great captain throughout this entire season.
04:29But today, very poor.
04:31Disappointed.
04:32Okay.
04:33And Satish, do you think that's where DC lost it?
04:36It was on those death-overs just in the first innings.
04:39A couple of things.
04:42One, after a wonderful start, they lost three quick wickets.
04:46And the middle-order was an untested middle-order.
04:48Hetmeyer was there, one-knock here and there with Chancey Knox.
04:53So actually, that's where they lost the first plot.
04:57And after that, the second plot they lost was in the final stages.
05:02Before that, if you look at, after the power-play-overs, Gekwar and Robin Wittapaw, they were milking
05:11the runs.
05:12They were only taking singles and twos.
05:14In fact, after the 7th over, I think, or 6th or 7th over, they took only about 3 overs,
05:2015 runs or 16 runs.
05:21They consolidated at that point of time.
05:23They took a step back and ensured that there was no wicket loss.
05:27And once the Delhi bowlers started trying, that's the time they started accelerating
05:31again.
05:33Of course, I won't fully blame Pant because Tom Curran bowled three beautiful overs.
05:38And you might think that it is his day.
05:42So you can get a little fooled by these performances.
05:47But again, Tom Curran now must have known what Dhoni is all about.
05:52He is a great finisher.
05:53You can't blame Tom Curran.
05:54He didn't bowl a bad ball.
05:56It was a brilliant shot that Dhoni picked because he utilised the spacers.
06:01He saw the field set.
06:02And then, credit to Dhoni.
06:05I don't agree with Arjun.
06:06Yeah.
06:07Robin Udawa and Greg Poit did a lot of hard work.
06:12But for those little cameo knocks, Dhoni has finished, CSK would have been two runs short,
06:18three runs short.
06:19Then again, you are lost.
06:22So he played a crucial role there.
06:26Six balls, 18.
06:27You can't ask for more.
06:28Correct.
06:29Yeah.
06:31Anas, I think even Maz is on the opinion that there was only one team that deserved to win
06:37this today.
06:38But do we think about Hollywood-style cameos?
06:44Was that one of those classics?
06:45We just watched the Tyson Fury match, which was like a boxing Rocky match last night.
06:52Do we think that this is almost like we could see a Hollywood-style going out for Dhoni
07:00if they get there?
07:03You never know.
07:04See, part of the thing is that Dhoni aura is also there.
07:08The thing is, anything and everything, Dhoni gets a hallow around it.
07:13So I mean, if you look at, there were very good contributions all around.
07:17And some of them get lost in the watch.
07:21If you look back, say maybe 10, 15 runs, Delhi was short.
07:26And I would say one of the men who was responsible for that was Shardul Thakur, who had an excellent
07:31last over.
07:32He gave only eight runs.
07:33See, if he had considered 10 more, maybe we would have had a different result.
07:38So there are lots of players who played very, very key roles in this match.
07:42But I mean, obviously, I mean, you're talking about guys like, you know, like Chris Fischau.
07:46On another day, we'd all be talking about how great his opening was.
07:50You know, just, it comes down to those final few balls.
07:55And Arjan, you've been chewing through your nails all the way through this and having
08:03lost a few losses.
08:04Are you on cloud nine now in terms of going all the way?
08:09Yeah, yeah.
08:11I think CSK can definitely win this.
08:14Sure.
08:15They had a few, like they had a four-loss streak, which was not good at all.
08:21But they somehow still managed to make it to qualifier one, still had the net run rate
08:27to do so.
08:28And yeah, I think we're pretty chill up here.
08:32In the finals, whoever gets eliminated, we're fine.
08:35We're just going to destroy any team who comes to the finals.
08:40I don't know if it's Delhi, RCB or KKR, we're just going to destroy any of them.
08:48Destroy?
08:49Good words, Maaz.
08:50Any fighting talk back from your corner?
08:51Because you know that you're going to be eliminated.
08:52One second.
08:53One second.
08:54Can I add a little more?
08:55Also, I hope that Dhoni gets his, Dhoni gets his retirement thing, where he wins the trophy.
09:05And all of the CSK players carry him up with the trophy.
09:09And it'll be like Sachin in the 2011 World Cup.
09:12I hope that's how Dhoni retires.
09:14I mean, Royal Challengers would be doing, trying to do the same thing for Virat Kohli,
09:19isn't it?
09:20For the first time, though.
09:21It'll be like a Minecraft for Kohli, leaving the captaincy.
09:22And I don't think Dhoni is going to retire as well, coming into the ICC World Cup.
09:35Okay, guys, we're going to wrap it up now.
09:37Any final opinions?
09:38Two from me.
09:39Sorry, I don't think Dhoni is going to retire in the near future, number one.
09:46And as I said last episode of our talk show in Chennai last, I thought Robin Uthappa needs
09:53to be replaced by Rayana.
09:54I think I'll have to take back my word.
09:56And he did prove, one of those guys, he proved wrong, I'm one of them as well.
10:01Brilliant knock.
10:02And he set the base for CSK to win.
10:05Okay.
10:06Okay.
10:07Well, thanks, everybody.
10:08Arjan, Maz, and our panel of experts.
10:09That's been a great chat.

10:15And thanks.
10:16And thanks.
10:17And thanks.
