5-year-old Dubai girl skates her way to stardom in the UAE

Young ice-skater Lyudmila Zykova may only be five years old but she has already set her sights on the very pinnacle of ice-dancing. Mila, as she is known, is a Year One student at GEMS Royal Dubai School in the UAE and is already skating her way to stardom, winning countless competitions across the UAE on the way. 00:00Meet Lyudmila Jakova, the five-year-old student at GEMS Royal Dubai School, who is skating

00:09her way to stardom.

00:11The young Kazakh ice skater may only be in grade one, but she has already been skating

00:15for more than two years and has won countless competitions across the UAE.

00:20Mila, as she is known, took up the sport back home before her family moved to Dubai.

00:26Her parents tried to get her involved in all sorts of activities, but Mila's young

00:30heart was clearly set on skating, illustrating her streak of determination that has set her

00:35on the way to the very top in the sport.

00:37Mila trains six days a week to develop and improve her skills.

00:44Her day begins at 5.30am with stretching and ice time.

00:47She then hits the ice again in the afternoon after school.

00:51Her many medals have been won against competitors much older than her five years, with GEMS

00:56Royal Dubai School allowing her flexibility in class time so she can fit in her training

01:01during set ice times at Skate Gate and Al Nusr Leisureland rinks under the guidance

01:06of her coach Svetlana Volkova, who has 28 years of experience as a choreographer-director

01:12and is confident that young Mila is just setting out on a journey that can see her compete

01:17with the best in the world.
