00:43beautiful people of Gulf News. Well, if you have to ask me, a disappointing game, if you have to
00:47talk about as a Delhi fan. But let's be very honest, Lucknow went clinical even though the
00:52match stressed to the last over. But in hindsight, I believe Lucknow were all over Delhi, bearing that
00:59start from Prithvi Shaw. Otherwise, it was all dominated by Lucknow.
01:05Okay. Since we have a special guest, let me head over to him right away. Nilesh,
01:12below par total from Delhi, that was the root of the problem. Do you agree with that?
01:17Yeah, I think so. I think two players who walked into the team today like Warner and
01:22Naukye, they were playing, Naukye was coming out of an injury and Warner was playing his first game.
01:28I think it was more of both performed under par, not expected of the performance from
01:35these two players. So, I think that was the root cause of Delhi's under par performance.
01:43But I hope they will get better in the next couple of matches.
01:49And Prithvi Shaw clicking today was a good news for Delhi. He didn't perform very well
01:54in the first two matches. So, I think overall, I would say it is primarily Warner
02:02and Naukye's performance that let Delhi down. All right. Satish, I have a very technical question
02:09for you. Since we have played some decent cricket here, how bad was the peak? Was it as bad as it
02:15made out to be? Because both the teams struggled. No, Shyam, I have been watching the match. And
02:20if you look at the way Prithvi Shaw played or when the bowlers are bowling, the fast bowlers
02:25were not getting enough because there was a little grass on the wicket. So, the ball was coming on
02:29nicely to the bat. So, the timing, they could get the timing right and they were able to play the
02:34shots. But the moment the spinners came in and the areas the spinners bowled, the ball was
02:40gripping slightly. And it was a kind of a double-paced wicket, I would say, where the spinners
02:46had a lot of purchase, whereas the fast bowlers didn't. And secondly, the fast bowlers were all
02:52bowling to the general wicket where they were bowling short of length or just short of length.
02:57But this is a wicket where they should have bowled up a little bit more on the traditional
03:01test match kind of a bowling where you play on the front foot. But if you see, all the shots
03:06were hit by the fast bowlers were on the back foot. Of course, De Kock played some very good
03:12shots of Nautia in the front foot. But again, those were shots that you can't expect every
03:18batter to play. But you should have still bowled those areas and expect some swing.
03:24Anish, the two standout performances were, like Nilesh said, Prithvi Shaw's performance
03:30certainly was one. But on for luck now, it certainly was Quintin De Kock. Can you take
03:36us through the two knocks from them?
03:39Yeah, when I started the match, we were hoping that Warner would fire. But Prithvi Shaw,
03:45when he takes off, he does it not so consistently for Delhi. But he just went berserk. And in six
03:51overs, Delhi were up and running. And when he got out in the eighth over, the run rule
03:57was above nine. So I thought this is a belter of a wicket. Or he made that easy. If I have
04:01to come on to the other side, we are talking about De Kock's knock. Once again, he is one
04:06of those players, they started off slowly. They did not take off like Prithvi Shaw. But
04:11they understood the pitch. And even though Rahul was not able to time, De Kock was able to
04:16take the bowlers apart. And in the end, because of the knock of De Kock, today, let's give it
04:20to Lucknow that they won it. Otherwise, it would have been a tricky chase. Because the guys who
04:24came on later, whether it was Krunal Pandya or the other batsmen, they all struggled.
04:32And if I am not wrong, if 20 runs extra would have made a difference. But I believe,
04:37here, Rishabh Pant missed a trick. He wasted two overs of the main spinner, Akshar Patel,
04:42who did not bowl, which was quite baffling. Because this was the wicket which was helping
04:46the spinners.
04:47Correct. Yeah, a bit of captaincy issue there. Anis just said that they were 20 runs short.
04:57Nilesh, that could have been the credit of the Lucknow bowlers, who superbly bowled the last
05:03three overs. And to tie Avesh Khan and Jason Holder peg-bag. Only 19 runs came in the last
05:10three overs. Did that make a difference?
05:12I think, Rishabh Pant wasn't firing at all, the way he does when he plays for the Indian team.
05:20He wasted far too many balls. And it's only towards the end that he got into his groove
05:27and scored a few runs. But I think, Rishabh Pant, he should have played much better,
05:33as he does always, whenever he bats well. He is much faster than what he did today.
05:40And I think, again, Quinton de Kock's innings was very good, no doubt about it. But had
05:46Nauki bowled his usual bowling, as he normally does, he would have definitely made it difficult
05:52for the Lucknow batsmen to chase the score. But definitely, in this type of a match,
05:59180 is a par score. Anything below 180, you can only hope to win, but not really win.
06:07You cannot depend all the time on the mistakes made by the opposition.
06:12So that was the thing. 149-150 is not a winning score at all in this IPL.
06:20Precisely, because there was no spectacular collapse, which is why Lucknow put Candle home.
06:26Sadesh, coming back to what Nilesh said earlier in the show here,
06:32the two newcomers to the Delhi side, David Warner and Anrich Nokia, what happened there?
06:37Because Warner coming off the Pakistan series, if I am right, and Anrich Nokia coming off an injury,
06:44was that the problem there?
06:47I won't even go up to Warner, because he is playing in different pitchers and different
06:53tournaments. And this is not a wicket where you can come and play your game easily. But I would
07:00put a lot of… One of the reasons why Delhi lost is because of Nokia. Just because of those two
07:07deliveries he bowled, he bowled two beamers, Shyam. And of which, one was a wicket.
07:15But doesn't that reflect a bowler coming off an injury without enough practice,
07:20isn't it? That shows a lack of practice.
07:22Exactly. And replacing Nokia with Khalil. Rather, Khalil going out and Nokia coming in.
07:30Khalil was bowling very well, in fact. He had that left-arm pacer. So, he had that variation as well.
07:36So, he could have still played and waited another game for Nokia to come in. But I think he was
07:42rushed a bit early than he was expected to be fit. But yeah, I would say Pant's captaincy was
07:50brilliant in patches. And sometimes, it was not up to the mark. As you said, Akshar Patel,
07:56not bowling those two overs was costly. And again, even while batting, they started attacking
08:02from almost the 16th over. And we have Shardul Thakur and couple of big hitters coming in the
08:08back. So, they could have still gone ahead early in the game and tried to up the run rate instead
08:15of taking their time until the 16th over. I think there were many things that went wrong for Pant today.
08:22Yes, I would agree there. Because they had lost only three wickets at the end of the
08:2720 overs. I mean, seven wickets in the bank and nothing to catch there. And that is a big loss
08:33there. And coming back to the Lucknow-Chez Anis, that partnership between Rahul and
08:39Pind and De Kock set the tone. 80 runs or 52 runs or 52 balls for the first wicket.
08:46Yeah, when you are chasing 150 and you get such a good start, you have made sure that
08:50you set the platform for the team. And the rest batsmen, they didn't have to do much. Even though
08:55they were struggling. Evan Lewis struggled. Deepak Hooda struggled. But De Kock was standing.
09:00The good thing was that if they had lost two quick wickets of the said batsmen, then it
09:05would have been a game. But as we said, this was a strange type of wicket. In spite of a lot of
09:11dew, the spinners did have their say in the game. And I am afraid, as I said, I will still hit on
09:16that point that two overs of Akshar Patel might hurt. In order to get Nokia's over, Pant forgot
09:22about Akshar Patel. And he left it a little too late and had that must have been an over which
09:29cost 14 runs in the 19th over. I think it changed the match in Lucknow's favour. Do you agree with that, Nilesh?
09:39Nilesh, that's for you.
09:41Yeah, yeah. Definitely. The chase was far more easy as compared to what it turned out to be.
09:51I think Lucknow, I don't know why they were so sceptical of not going for the runs in the 15th,
09:5716th, 17th over and they waited till the last over. There was absolutely no reason to do that.
10:06Good for Delhi that at least they maintained the net run rate and they didn't lose by a huge margin.
10:11And towards the end of the tournament, this net run rate will come very much into play,
10:16especially when there are 10 teams. I'm sure there are going to be lots of ties in terms of
10:22the points and net run rate will take a very, very crucial factor in the end.
10:29So good for Delhi, but I think Lucknow should have done better.
10:34Anyway, Lucknow has got two points from there. The second spot, they're sharing six
10:38points each with KKR at the top of the heap. So they are behind KKR on net run rate. So
10:45good for a side, which is making a debut in IPLs. Super show there.
10:51I think Lucknow has a very strong team. Picking up a team like what they have on the very first
10:55auction is brilliant. I don't know who is the brain behind that, but they have done very good
11:00team. They have picked up a very good team. Yeah, a lot of people say it is Gautam Gambhir's
11:06brain, because like you said, it's a very balanced side there. And he's again, just coming back to
11:12our… We've been discussing these youngsters for a long time and Ayush Bernal, he seems to go from
11:17strength to strength in each match. And even today, what a nerveless innings. A four and a
11:23six when things are looking tight. Yes, you have to give it to him. These youngsters have really
11:29come out of age. And the calmness, like you said, the others were trying to hit the ball,
11:35he was timing the ball. And the moment he came on to bat, even though five runs were only required,

12:36Gujarat. Gujarat Titans. Who is your pick in there?
12:40Well, I would go with Punjab. For a change, Punjab has got a very balanced side this time. So,
12:45I would go with Punjab, Shahnaz.
12:49But Anis, if you can't write off the Gujarat Titans, will you?
12:53Well, after I have interviewed today, the COO, difficult to write off, but in the sense,
12:58you know what, this IPL is a bunch of surprises. I still don't know which will be the four teams.
13:06Even though we've just done 15 matches, every match is throwing a surprise. And had today,
13:11Lucknow made a mess of it, who knows what would have happened. But today, the top three teams,
13:15we know who are it's KKR, Delhi and not Delhi, sorry, Lucknow and Gujarat. So, they're doing
13:22well. And tomorrow, if Gujarat can put it across, so these three teams are at least safe for the
13:27time being. Or Punjab probably.
