00:00Welcome to the next edition of Bollywood Gossip and Movies with Manjusha.
00:10Hello.
00:11And she is going to tell us what were the highs and the lows with Bollywood this week.
00:17Starting off with a new casting story.
00:20Right, I am so excited about this Anupa.
00:22I began my day with the news that Priyanka Chopra and Rajkumar Rao,
00:26two of blazing talents from Indian cinema and you know that Priyanka Chopra is a global star.
00:32They are uniting for The White Tiger, the adaptation of the Man Booker Prize.
00:37And we are so excited about it because Rajkumar Rao will play a chaiwala
00:41who goes on to become a very rich entrepreneur.
00:45And from the statement that we got, it says that Priyanka Chopra is equally excited about her role
00:51because it talks about naked ambition, raw ambition.
00:55And she should know a thing or two about it because Priyanka Chopra, if there is one thing she knows,
01:00it is that she is very professional and she is very ambitious.
01:03So she is like unapologetically ambitious.
01:06So it will be great to see her in a movie that celebrates raw ambition and deceit and murder.
01:11There is a lot happening. I haven't read the book. Anupa, have you?
01:14No, I haven't actually. I mean not completely to be very honest.
01:19But there are mixed reviews. So let's see.
01:22And I think one thing it won't suffer from is a bad plot.
01:27I suppose yes. In fact, I think the danger lies in it being too convoluted.
01:31Sometimes what happens with book to movie adaptation is that it gets too complicated.
01:36The director tries too hard to fit in every element and then it's a mess.
01:40So here is hoping that they take the best elements,
01:43cull the best elements from the book and capture it into a movie.
01:46Another thing is Rajkumar Rao is very, very talented.
01:50Even I saw his movie Judgmental Hai Kya and I remember being so impressed with him
01:55because he can do any role with the kind of finesse and that kind of effortless ease
02:00that not many actors can command. So it's impressive to see him in action.
02:05And I think this is a casting combination that we have not seen.
02:08Two very talented actors coming together for a movie on Netflix.
02:12So this is going to be exciting.
02:13Speaking of Netflix, you can actually catch Rajkumar Rao's Newton.
02:18That's true.
02:19Which was India's Oscar entry.
02:21That's right.
02:22So that's something that you can line up for before this movie comes out.
02:26Yeah, this is one way to get acquainted with Rajkumar Rao's work
02:30for those who are unfamiliar with his work.
02:32And speaking of plots and stars, you have a star coming in this weekend.
02:39That's right. We're very excited about this as well because we have Pinoy star Ann Curtis
02:44who's coming to Gulf News on Saturday evening.
02:47Do follow our social media accounts and Gulf News tabloid for the entire lowdown
02:53on what happens when she enters our office.
02:56And she's here to promote her latest movie.
03:00It's about she plays a married woman who is in love with a 19-year-old.
03:04So it's a very turbulent story about love and betrayal.
03:08So it's going to be very interesting having her in our office.
03:11She's also going to meet her fans in the real cinemas at Al Gorehr as well over the weekend.
03:17So go online and find out how you can buy the tickets and meet the star of your dreams.
03:23And which brings us to the third star who's going to be in town.
03:27That's right. There's also going to be Varun Dhawan.
03:30We all know that Varun Dhawan is a UFC addict and he's going to be there in Abu Dhabi
03:36at the arena in Yas Island this Saturday to watch the momentous match between two champions.
03:43So it's going to be very interesting to see a bit of Bollywood glamour being added into a sporting event
03:48which is what I'm told it's bigger than F1 as well and bigger than boxing.
03:53So Varun Dhawan is a big fan and he's also going to be there for an advertorial campaign
03:58for Sony Pictures for their sporting segment.
04:01So it's going to be very interesting to see what he has in store for us.
04:05It's always good to have a bit of Bollywood glamour into sporting events.
04:09In fact you can see the coverage of the entire event on gulfnews.com
04:13and all the other stories that Manju has been talking about.
04:16Which brings us again. Saturday seems to be quite a momentous day
04:20because another star is celebrating his birthday in a very unique way.
04:24That is right. If you guys know Mammootty then he's turning 68 on Saturday
04:29and he's asked his fans to give him a very morbid and a unique birthday gift.
04:34There's a blood donation drive that his fans, his UAE fan association has put together.
04:41So tomorrow if you love Mammootty enough go and donate your blood.
04:46I know it's not something, I don't love him enough to donate my blood because I'm scared of needles
04:50but if you're not scared of needles and you love Mammootty the southern national award winning actor
04:57make sure that you donate some blood.
05:00And I guess it's a good cause because that is something that sometimes is of much help to a lot of people.
05:06Which brings us to the final bit which is your review at the premiere of the week.
05:12That's right and I'm going to review Chichore.
05:15It stars Sushant Singh Rajput and it stars Shraddha Kapoor.
05:20It's directed by Nitesh Tiwari. You know him from Dangal. He directed Dangal.
05:25And if you remember it is one movie that you all enjoyed.
05:28And one thing about Nitesh Tiwari is that he can bring to life even the most rural of India
05:33or you know he knows how to keep it raw and simple.
05:36So this movie is a college buddy romance and a drama about a bunch of goofballs
05:42who graduate from college and it takes them to how they navigate this tricky world of adulting.
05:47So it's going to be very interesting to see their passage.
05:50It's a coming of age story and one thing about Sushant Singh Rajput is that
05:54if he's playing a character he's invariably good in it.
05:57And Shraddha Kapoor after Saaho I promise you she needs to redeem herself in my eyes
06:02because honestly I was scarred from watching Saaho.
06:06Having said that despite negative reviews all around the globe I think it was universally panned.
06:11It has made a lot of money.
06:13Makers are laughing their way to the bank but I think it's the critics and the audience who feel the pain.
06:19Yes.
06:20We can't hear. Hoping Chichore is way better than Saaho.
06:24And Shraddha Kapoor is once again an actress in good merit.
06:29And on that happy note we will end today's edition and we'll see you again next week.
06:34See ya.
