UAE motorists ditch vehicles on Car Free Day

Dubai Municipality holds 10th edition of car-free day on Sunday for public and private sectors

00:00The Dubai municipality has kick-started the Car Free Day initiative on Sunday morning

00:13with residents from across the Emirates joining the 10th edition of the yearly drive by ditching

00:18their cars for a day.

00:20A grand celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Green Initiative is being held at the

00:24Union Metro Park.

00:25Several motorists who took part by not driving today have reached the venue.

00:29We would like to encourage people to use the bicycle as a way of transportation.

00:36This morning we came all the way from Jumeirah, Jumeirah 3 to Dubai municipality and we are

00:40going back again on the main road.

00:41We would like to increase the awareness of the cyclists on the road.

00:44We would like drivers to respect also cyclists as well on the road.

00:49I left my car in the apartment today.

00:51I didn't bring it because I want to support Dubai municipality's Car Free Day initiative.

00:56Last year I did it by myself, alone I came by walking and he got inspired by my walk

01:02and he said he will also accompany me this year.

01:06So we both started at 6.30, 6.30 from Al Khan and we reached at 8 in clock tower, 8.

01:13And 15 minutes we reached to Union Square.

01:16Last year he told me I got so much inspired from his walk, his achievements that he came

01:21from Shahjah to Dubai this much, like 13-15 kilometres distance.

01:26So I also got inspired, that's why I told him that I will also accompany him this year.

01:30At least for a day you should ditch your car and see the experience, walking is good for

01:36health as well.

01:37I came here as an inspiration from my father and the message I got from here is that using

01:42car always, using car is good but not always.

01:46Sometimes you can use public transport like metros and RTS bus so that they won't generate

01:52more pollution.

01:53Actually I come here for getting a message of, by not making the pollution, environment

01:59pollution, so we must create a sustainable environment.

02:04The car is good but we must use it only in any time, so we must not pollute our environment,

02:12we must make our environment safe.

02:13An exhibition of environmental-friendly vehicles and other solutions is also being held at

02:18the venue.

02:19The environmental drive is aimed at encouraging people to use public transport and reduce

02:23carbon emissions in the air due to vehicle use.

02:27We want more people to come and participate in this Car-Free Day, it's very important

02:32for our environment, it's very important for people to breathe, at least reducing the carbon

02:40dioxide in the city.

02:41It was called the UA Car-Free Day this year with expanded participation from other emirates

02:46protecting the environment and reducing carbon footprint at the UAE level.
