00:00The Filipino peso fell to its lowest level against the dirham since December, just days
00:07after the new central bank governor assumed his post.
00:11Falling to 14.1 pesos to the dirham, many are saying now is the right time for Filipino
00:17expatriates in the UAE to send their currency home, achieving values not seen in the last
00:22three or four months.
00:24Benjamin Diokno, the former budget secretary, took over his position on March 5th, saying
00:28he favours low interest rates and calling a weak currency not particularly detrimental
00:33to the Filipino economy.
00:35Elsewhere, Dubai's transport regulator has banned electric scooters from the streets,
00:40calling them a health and safety hazard to pedestrians and saying it needs time to formulate
00:45new laws to deal with the controversial form of transport.
00:49In cities like San Francisco, Madrid and Paris, regulators have been tight on the transport,
00:54which can be rented and a hop-on, hop-off via applications downloaded on your mobile
00:59phone.
01:00You may have seen these scooters springing up around the city over the last few months.
01:05They have now been taken off the streets whilst the Roads and Transport Authority, or the
01:09RTA, decides exactly what kind of regulations to implement to govern the transport.
01:15And amid further fallout from the disaster that claimed the lives of 157 people on Sunday
01:20in the Ethiopian Airlines crash, the FAA has decided not to ground the Boeing 777-300 MAX
01:278, which is the jet that was in use at the time of the disaster.
01:31Analysts say it's too early to draw parallels with the Lion Air crash in Indonesia last
01:35October, which was also using the same brand new jet from Boeing.
01:40FlyDubai has said that they will not be grounding the jet, for which it has around 200 orders,
01:46and the Singaporean authorities have closed the airspace to the plane, whilst authorities
01:52in Australia have also done the same.
01:56Boeing's share price is currently trading at around 2% down ahead of the US stock market's
02:00opening on Tuesday morning.
02:03That's all for today.
