Hello everybody, how's it going? I'm back on my travels today. I'm no longer stuck inside my
00:04
living room because the rain's gone away, but it is still a little bit gloomy. It's been that way
00:09
for about five months now. I don't know if you've noticed by now, but I'm more of a summer kind of
00:13
guy. Looking forward to bringing you these daily updates. Maybe he's wearing a vest, pair of shorts,
00:19
maybe he's even sitting in a nice backyard somewhere, but that's still a few weeks down
00:23
the line. For now we've got to pull up with this perennial gloom. But on the Newcastle night at
00:27
front there is plenty to be jaffled about. Story broke on the Daily Mail today. Not one, not two,
00:33
but three positive injury updates for Newcastle United. Now Eddie Howe's team, you know, has been
00:39
short of options in recent weeks from the bench. Especially in attacking areas, you know, following
00:44
Miggy Alma on sale to Atlanta United. Callum Wilson was obviously injured. He came back and made a
00:50
goalscoring return last weekend. And Harvey Barnes, you know, he still looks like he's going to be out
00:55
for a couple of weeks. But the good news is that Anthony Gordon looks like he should be okay to play
01:01
against Manchester City there this weekend, which should be a big game. Who would have thought it
01:05
could have been? It would have been as big a game it was at the start of the season, you know,
01:10
two teams fighting for Champions League given Manchester City's drop off. In defence you had
01:16
Dan Burns going back to that Birmingham game. He hobbled off and from our position in the press box
01:22
it looked pretty serious, you know. Dan Burns is not the type of player to be going down easy or
01:27
looking for a way out of a game. And Eddie Howe admitted to reporters afterwards, he said, look,
01:32
he didn't really want to play Dan Burns before the game, but he didn't have much choice. Played him
01:37
and sort of was ruined that a little bit after the game. But it all sounds like he's going to be okay
01:43
whether he plays against Man City, that's another thing. But it's nothing long term because you
01:48
couldn't help but think of that Carabao Cup final, you know, Dan Burney's been one of Newcastle's
01:53
best players this season. And for him, that Carabao Cup final, being a local lad, he just feared the
01:59
worst when he hobbled off against Birmingham. But it sounds like he's going to be okay and it sounds
02:03
like Anthony Gordon should be fit and fired for this weekend. Another positive injury news, Sven
02:09
Botman. Now, Sven Botman's knee last season, obviously he missed the bulker last season,
02:15
the bulker last year, sorry, with an ACL injury. And when Newcastle fans found out that
02:21
he had another knee injury and it's so ruled out for last weekend, it wasn't exactly ideal.
02:27
You know, Newcastle fans were sort of fearing the worst a little bit. Is this going to be a recurring
02:32
injury? But at the press conference last Friday, Eddie Howe confirmed that it was the opposite knee
02:36
and now news has emerged that Sven Botman should be okay. It's nothing too serious. And that's
02:41
important, you know. We spoke after the game, me and my colleague Jordan Cronin, about sod's law.
02:48
Newcastle United, Lloyd Kelly could barely get a kick all season. They let him go and two left
02:53
footers there sent a half cent up injured. But it's looking like they're going to be okay and
02:57
that's all good for Newcastle on the injury front because they've taken a gamble in the
03:01
January transfer window. They didn't sign anybody. So to get players back, you know, with that
03:07
attack and especially in the wide areas, you'd think with Callum Wilson back in the mix and Harvey
03:12
Barnes a couple of weeks away, if everyone can stay fit, Newcastle should have a solid end of
03:16
the season. A little curveball that I would like to throw back to you at home. The Carabao Cup final,
03:22
that's the big topic on Tyneside at the minute, isn't it? You've got tickets, you've got people
03:26
going on sale, you've got people getting all up a height in the bars, in the pubs, on the streets,
03:31
on social media. It really is the number one story in Newcastle right now, the Carabao Cup final.
03:37
And I was just thinking, how can I pose an interesting question for you today?
03:41
Statues! You might be thinking, statues? What's what you can't nod about? Eddie Howe. Now I asked
03:48
Eddie Howe personally last week, I went, what would it mean to you to be the man to finally,
03:54
after 70 years of domestic doom where they've won out, what would it mean to you to finally
04:00
be the ones to get Newcastle over the line? Yourself, Jason Tindall, Graham Jones, all the
04:06
coaching staff. And he said it would mean the world, he said it would mean everything. He saw
04:11
a number one goal when he came to the club. Now you've got to think, so many famous names
04:17
since Newcastle won the FA Cup in 1955. So many heroes, so many legends of the club
04:23
that are revered and will be forever, but they never actually won anything.
04:27
Alan Shearer's statue outside the ground scored more goals for Newcastle than anyone in the
04:31
club's history. Came so close in 1998 and 1999, didn't win anything. Sir Bobby Robson
04:39
took Newcastle from, you know, relegation, fighting relegation positions in the Premier League,
04:44
took them on an amazing journey up towards the Champions League places, fighting for the title.
04:49
Some of their nights here in the Champions League under Sir Bobby Robson is the reason why he has
04:53
a statue outside of St James's today. But again, I come back to it, didn't win anything. Kevin Keegan,
05:00
a man who has zero recognition in terms of a statue or a plaque or anything outside of St
05:04
James's Park, took Newcastle even further from the second division to within a whisker on the
05:10
Premier League title. I don't have to remind some of the older fans how painful that 1995-96 season
05:15
remains to this day. So in any house case, would a Carabao Cup win over Liverpool next month?
05:22
Ending the curse, getting the monkey off the back for Newcastle after decades, kick-starting the
05:29
Saudi era, the first trophy since the new owners came in. Would a Carabao Cup win be enough for
05:35
Eddie Howe to get that statue outside of St James's Park or even a new stadium? Let us know what you
05:41
think in the comments below. I thought that would be a little interesting one to throw back to us.
05:45
And yeah, I'll catch yous later.
