109 fishermen rescued from drifting ice floe in Russia's Sakhalin

Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations sent out rescue teams to retrieve the stranded fishermen.

00:06Sakhalin region, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

00:11The fishermen became stranded after a 10-metre crack formed on the island of Sakhalin, from

00:17the village of Malki to the mouth of the Dolinka River.

00:20The ministry says 44 people were rescued by an Mi-8 helicopter, but several remained on

00:26the ice flow as they did not want to abandon their catch and equipment.

00:30Those remaining were picked up by boat instead.
