Noga Tarnopolsky: No alternative plan for Gaza

Israel did not propose an alternative plan for governing Gaza instead of Hamas, Journalist Noga Tarnopolsky says.

00:00In terms of Gaza, Hamas has been basically militarily defeated, and its ability to administer

00:10Gaza would have been eliminated if Israel and the other interested parties had been

00:18able to agree to an alternative force.

00:21If Israel had at any point said, we accept X, the Palestinian Authority as was demanded

00:27of it by the international community, or any other realistic option who could have

00:32come in to Gaza and taken over power.

00:35So it's Israel's refusal to actually name anybody that it would agree to allow to administer

00:41Gaza that has left Hamas in this kind of nominally administrative position, which gives it a

00:47lot more strength than it has in any other respect.

00:51And that's the reason we've come, both sides trying to cling on to power.

00:56That's how we've come to this point.
