(Adnkronos) - "Le cause principali degli avvelenamenti sono per il 50% almeno circa farmaci, poi ci sono un 30% sostanze chimiche contenute prevalentemente nei prodotti domestici, quindi facilmente la portata di bambini e di persone in ambiente di vita normale.” Sono le parole di Franco Locatelli, past president della Società Italiana di Tossicologia e direttore del Centro Antiveleni Maugeri di Pavia, intervenuto al 22° Congresso Nazionale Sitox di Bologna.

00:05The main causes of poisoning are, for 50% at least, drugs,

00:11then there are 30% chemical substances,

00:14mainly contained in domestic products,

00:17so easily brought by children and people in a normal living environment.

00:23There is a small percentage of industrial accidents,

00:26a small percentage of drug problems, especially new drugs,

00:32but also alcohol, old drugs,

00:34and then there are food intoxicants, cosmetics,

00:38all the things with which man can come into contact.

00:41The most affected areas of the population are more or less equally distributed,

00:45if we make big numbers,

00:47there are 35% of children, 30% of the elderly,

00:52and 40-45% of the middle-aged, between children and the elderly.

00:56Children are more often exposed to accidental intoxication,

00:59when we talk about adults and the elderly,

01:01they can be more often self-injured,

01:04and certainly children have access to domestic products,

01:08there are more frequent problems with domestic products

01:10than in adults and the elderly.
