Malaysia aims to boost women's representation in Armed Forces, says deputy minister

00:00Until 31 December last year, a total of 222 members of the Women's ATM served abroad.

00:07They were involved in humanitarian missions, security missions under the United Nations,

00:14training with strategic allies and military diplomatic missions.

00:20Until now, the Women's ATM has carried out three humanitarian missions internationally

00:25involving 118 members of the Women's ATM,

00:29to provide medical assistance to refugees in Bangladesh,

00:34involving a total of 89 members of the Women's ATM,

00:38which is 36% of the 245 members of the mission.

00:43The second is the Women's ATM to help earthlings in Turkey,

00:48involving a total of 21 members of the Women's ATM,

00:51which is 19% of the 110 members of the mission.

00:55And the third mission is to bring back the injured Palestinian people for treatment in Malaysia,

00:59involving a total of 8 members of the Women's ATM,

01:02which is 11% of the 70 members of the mission.

01:07Next, a total of 85 members of the Women's ATM were sent for duty in the PBB security mission in Lebanon.

01:24We can see that based on the white paper of the previous defense,

01:28a total of 10% of the members of the Women's ATM have been targeted.

01:32Regarding the target of the Women's ATM,

01:36what is the number of requests compared to the missions that have been carried out for the past three years?

01:44And are there any incentives given to the members of the Women's ATM

01:50to carry out missions abroad, such as Malbat?

02:01If we look at the white paper of the previous defense,

02:05we can see that there is a reduction of about 2% of the achievements that we want to deliver.

02:12So, if we look at this year,

02:15we have conducted a revision or a review of our defense white paper,

02:20because we know that in the 10-year period,

02:22we will revise it in 5 years.

02:24That's because if we look through this defense white paper,

02:27we can see several aspects that we can further increase the involvement of women in the ATM itself.

02:34Especially in terms of the use of technology,

02:38and especially if we look at our cyber domain,

02:41the space for women is very open.

02:44So, if we look at these aspects,

02:46I think that through the defense white paper,

02:49we can achieve our goals.

02:51And not only achieve our goals,

02:53but the most important thing is that we want to increase,

02:56through our promotion, the involvement of women in the Malaysian military.
