The EU prepares retaliatory measures as tensions rise with the United States

The European Union is up in arms as Donald Trump carries out his tariff threat. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and some MEPs called for unity.

00:08US President Donald Trump.

00:12The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has assured in a statement

00:16that unjustified tariffs on the EU will not go unanswered and will be met with firm and

00:21proportionate countermeasures.

00:25According to von der Leyen, the EU will act to defend its economic interests and protect

00:29its workers and businesses.

00:33Von der Leyen has not yet specified how the EU will defend itself against US tariffs.

00:38However, her message has received support from a large number of MEPs, but not the Patriots

00:44for Europe, who believe the Green Deal is partly to blame.

00:47I want to protect our oil producers, tomato producers, our fishing sector, the onion producer

00:55and the steel, aluminium or cars.
