00:11Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook unveiled the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last night in what
00:15he said was the biggest advancement in the history of iPhone. Cook announced the new
00:20phones in Cupertino, California, where former Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs unveiled
00:25the Mac computer 25 years ago. The new iPhones will be released in select countries on September
00:3119th, with pre-orders open from September 12th. It isn't clear when the new phones will
00:35be available in the UAE.
00:37Apple also unveiled a watch, the first new product to be developed and introduced under
00:42Cook's reign. The timepiece is tethered to the iPhone and will combine health and fitness
00:46tracking with communications.
00:48At the launch, Irish superstars U2 released their first album in five years for free on
00:53Apple's iTunes. U2 also played a single from the new album, Songs of Innocence.
00:59Here in the UAE, four people died and five were injured in an accident involving three
01:03cars near Dubai Academic City. Dubai Police Chief Major General Khamis Mattar Al-Mazina
01:09said the victims were all aged between 17 to 20. The 18-year-old driver who caused the
01:14accident is in police custody.
01:16A high school pupil in Dubai is stable but under observation by doctors after a fellow
01:20pupil attacked him with a knife inside a classroom in Rashidiyah. 14-year-old Raj,
01:25an 8th grader at the Philippine school, was rushed to Rashid Hospital after reportedly
01:29being stabbed four times by a 7th grader from the same school.
01:34President Barack Obama says he has the authority to widen military action against Islamist
01:38militants in Iraq and Syria without the approval of Congress. He will still ask Congress to
01:43approve the arming of Syrian opposition forces, though. Mr. Obama is due to give a speech
01:48on Wednesday night in which he will outline his anti-ISIL strategy.
01:52Lady Gaga is due on stage around 9 p.m. tonight for her UAE concert debut. The US singer will
01:58be performing at Maydan in Dubai and is expected to have 14 costume changes, including one
02:03on stage. Sing 24 songs and dance across 110 feet of runway extending from the stage. Fifteen
02:10inflatable trees will sprout up on stage during Venus to create a bouncy garden in the middle
02:15of the show.
02:16And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 38 degrees Celsius, dropping
02:20to 30 tonight.
