Now, if there's something we know in the UAE, it's our food.
00:13
With over 200 nationalities, there's something for everyone, from the hook cuisine and the
00:17
fine dining to meals on a budget.
00:20
But what that means for business owners is that they have to do something really special
00:23
to stand out.
00:24
We've come to the Marina, JBR to be precise, to one such restaurant which is looking to
00:28
offer something unique.
00:29
This here is Aprons and Hammers.
00:31
It claims to be the first restaurant in the UAE centred around a hanging garden.
00:35
Plants, as you can see, offer a centrepiece which everything revolves around.
00:39
But the absolute highlight has to be the fact that you're on the beach.
00:43
Where else would you like to have seafood?
00:45
Now, like me, the first thing that may have popped into your head when you heard of Aprons
00:48
and Hammers is, why Aprons and Hammers?
00:50
Well, as a seafood restaurant, it's offering something different.
00:54
It's customary to put on your apron.
00:56
Every customer gets one.
00:57
Not because I'm going to be doing any cooking today, but because it's accompanied by none
01:02
other than a hammer, and we're about to find out why.
01:08
Well, at first glance, there seems to be quite some variety on offer here.
01:11
You've got all your typical seafood, like your shrimps and calamari, but then there's
01:15
also things like crab cakes, and they do have vegetarian options, as well as a Goan-style
01:20
fish curry, which sounds quite tempting, and the likes of chicken and vegetarian pasta.
01:26
Aprons and Hammers, we've come here to try out the experience, and I think it'd be foolish
01:30
not to order some crab.
01:32
Aprons and Hammers is, of course, a UAE-based company, and they claim that all of their
01:35
seafood is freshly caught every single day.
01:39
I'm very excited, to say the very least.
01:40
I cannot wait.
01:41
It's not the way I expected it to come.
01:43
It's almost...
01:46
It's...
01:48
In a pot, but nonetheless, I'm really, really, really looking forward to this.
01:52
I do love crab and lobster, so this should be very, very, very, very good.
02:01
So it does actually come in handy, in some sense or another, but it does get you quite
02:05
dirty.
02:06
A bit of it's just gone in my face, but...
02:14
That is...
02:15
That's good.
02:16
I'm quite surprised by how much meat is inside, as well.
02:18
Especially when you order crab or lobster or the likes, there's usually not much meat
02:23
inside, but these seem to be quite generous.
02:34
Another thing I've noticed is it's quite flavoursome, as well.
02:38
It's obviously...
02:39
I got the option of the sauce I wanted at the start, and I chose a Provencal sauce,
02:44
and you can really taste that it's cooked in there.
02:47
So as you can clearly see, it's not the sort of place for those who are quite picky and
02:51
fussy about getting their hands dirty.
02:54
But if, like me, you like to get stuck in when you're hungry, it's definitely worth
03:01
it.
03:04
Well, that was difficult.
03:05
I feel absolutely stuffed.
03:07
As you can see, there were eight pieces of crab there.
03:10
I think I've managed to chow down about six of them.
03:13
One state of this, a state of this, and I've got my apron dirty, which I think I've done
03:19
myself proud.
03:20
The experience, all in all, is fantastic.
03:22
Here's just some hot lemon water, lemon and mint water, to wash your hands in.
03:26
It's a really, really good experience, something I've never done before, and something I'd
03:30
definitely recommend.
03:31
And I think that's one thing we started off talking about, about how restaurants are having
03:34
to be more unique and offer a unique selling point, and I think this is definitely one
03:39
way of achieving that.
