00:00This is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon.
00:08It's been completely redesigned for 2025, and the one we're looking at, which is the G580, is the very first all-electric.
00:17The G-Wagon always had a lot of analog features to preserve the look and feel of this very classic, iconic SUV.
00:26Well, the engineers at Mercedes-Benz spent a lot of time figuring out how to turn analog looking and feeling functions into things that are truly done with electric power.
00:37And the result is a 2025 all-electric G-Wagon that looks and feels exactly like a G-Wagon should.
00:45This is a first edition that we're looking at here. It is fully equipped with all the luxuries and features.
00:52The electric version has an all-electric range of about 240 miles, and that number in its name, the G580, that is the horsepower rating.
01:01The G580 is powered by four motors, one on each wheel, and that allows something that other G-Wagons can't do, which is G-Turn and G-Steering.
01:12G-Steering is all four wheels are able to turn, and then there is a G-Turn, in which all four wheels actually turn in opposite directions to spin the G-Wagon in a perfect circle.
01:26Now, I'm going to tell you, that's not easy to do. You have to go through a lot of steps to be able to effect a G-Turn, but once you do, it is very cool.
01:41Classic G-Wagons have always had a spare tire on the rear. Mercedes did not add a spare tire so that they could reduce the weight, and Mercedes has added what they're calling a backpack.
01:52It locks when the car is locked, so you do have to unlock the car to open the backpack.
01:59Inside, there is space for a charge cord, there are nets for holding things, so you can actually fit quite a bit in here, and there's even a little Easter egg of a G-Wagon climbing a hill.
02:12Another classic detail is the swing gate.
02:15The interior of the Mercedes G-Wagon will look and feel very classic, but modern Mercedes, so we have this large screen here, it is a touch screen, and it's also controlled by the mouse pad here in the center console.
02:31Get into the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, tap the starter, and you get a little bit of a startup whirr noise.
02:41It gives you that visceral feeling of being in a G-Wagon without actually being in a gas-powered G-Wagon.
02:48You'll see everything that is classic modern Mercedes, from this wide glass panel, touch screen on this side, and driver display on this side.
02:58There are turbine-shaped air vents here.
03:02This, though, is the key to life in the G-Wagon.
03:06This is the off-road cockpit, and this is where you'll find all of your driver feedback and metrics for off-road driving.
03:14You can put it into low range, there is the camera function here, and the camera, you can actually even see underneath the car.
03:23We have this beautiful steering wheel with blue stitching.
03:27There's blue stitching here on this leather surround on the dash, and then we have black, gray, and blue carbon fiber accents here on the dash.
03:37We'll see those on the door and on the grab bars, and that blue carbon fiber reminds us that this is an electric vehicle.
03:44The updated 2025 G-Wagon is something that a lot of people have been waiting for, especially for that technology and modern function, but keeping that classic look and feel.
03:56The electric version is particularly special because it can do things on the off-road trail that the gas-powered version just can't do.
04:06And that makes the 2025 G-Wagon all the more special.
04:09And that makes the 2025 G-Wagon all the more special.
