00:00Thousands of high school and university students in Greece protested in Athens
00:04Friday over the delay in the investigation of the 2023 railway
00:08disaster in which at least 57 lives were lost. The demonstrators marched through
00:14the city center to the chants of murders, murders, surrounded by hundreds of
00:19police officers in riot gear. The fatal head-on collision occurred near the city
00:24of Temp in northern Greece when a passenger train was incorrectly
00:29diverted onto the same track as an oncoming freight train. Delays in the
00:34investigation of the disaster have intensified pressure on the conservative
00:38government ahead of the second anniversary of the accident on February 28th.
00:41We are here today as a club to protest on behalf of the 57 dead,
00:52to protest against the crime that took place in Tempi, but also against the
00:57policy that puts profits over human lives.
01:04What is happening today is just a vindication, not only of justice, but in
01:10my opinion, of an open and clearer path for those who will come after us, for
01:15those of us who are older and are here today. We are not here only for ourselves,
01:20we are here for those who will come after us when we were no longer here. And
01:24that is the most important thing, to fight for something better even if you
01:29are no longer here to enjoy it. That's what is at stake today.
