00:00On this day in space.
00:03On February 5th, 1971, two Apollo 14 astronauts landed on the moon.
00:08Apollo 14 Commander Alan Shepard and the Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell
00:12left their crewmate Stuart Roosa in the command module
00:15and descended down to the moon in the Lunar Module Antares.
00:18Their descent was a little chaotic.
00:21A faulty switch was sending abort signals to the landing module's computer
00:24and NASA had to reprogram the computer before they could land.
00:27Then the landing radar failed to measure the module's altitude and descent speed.
00:31The problem fixed itself just in time,
00:33and Shepard manually landed the spacecraft right on target.
00:36And that's what happened on this day in space.
