00:00On this day in space. On January 4th, 1970, NASA canceled the Apollo 20 moon
00:07mission. This came just six months after Apollo 11 astronauts Buzz Aldrin and
00:12Neil Armstrong became the first people to ever set foot on the moon. Instead of
00:16launching another crew of astronauts to the moon, NASA decided to use the Saturn
00:195 rocket that was built for Apollo 20 to launch the Skylab space station instead.
00:24Budget cuts, along with the nearly fatal disaster that happened with Apollo 13,
00:28led NASA to eventually cut two more Apollo missions. Canceling these missions also
00:32freed up resources for the space shuttle program. And that's what happened on this day in space.
