00:00China's tech influence in the U.S. has really been front and center.

00:04We have seen this, haven't we, with the battle over TikTok.

00:09China is starting, as you just said, that anti-monopoly investigation into Google.

00:14Do you think this is just basically tit-for-tat at the moment?

00:18And of course DeepSeek, which is catching up fast with OpenAI's ChatGPT, a development

00:24that a lot of American and Western observers didn't think was possible.

00:27I think we're certainly seeing a tech race.

00:31And whilst America still has the technological supremacy in the world, China is catching

00:36up fast.

00:37And so there's a real live question about what to do about this kind of catching up.

00:43In terms of tit-for-tat, I think with the Google probe, it certainly is retaliatory.

00:49China's been very vague about what exactly Google has done that is meant to have been

00:53anti-trust.

00:54We see that in terms of American and Western players in general, China has done tit-for-tat

01:03If you think back to the Trump first presidency hunt, as it were, persecution of the Chinese

01:10company Huawei.
