00:00Today's debut of the House Tricom hearing turned into a huge letdown with only three of 41 vloggers showing up
00:06to face up to the music on the issue of free speech and where such right or entitlement ends,
00:11especially in social media.
00:13Are Melelas Moras on the dismay of the committee leaders and members
00:17over the failure of resource persons to honor their invites?
00:30Several lawmakers were dismayed by the absence of most social media bloggers they invited to the
00:50first public hearing of the House Tricommittee regarding the spread of fake news and disinformation
00:56in the country. Out of 41 personalities summoned by the joint panel, only three showed up.
01:16Because of this, the Tricommittee issued show-cause orders to the vloggers who failed
01:20to appear, including Atty. Trixie Cruz Angeles, who may also face a disbarment case.
01:25Instead of going to the House of Representatives,
01:28Angeles' group was spotted at the Supreme Court filing a petition against the Tricomm.
01:51The joint panel remained unfazed. At one point,
01:54it was also revealed that some Chinese-linked social media accounts were involved in spreading
01:58attacks against the administration.
02:13Meanwhile, issues on artificial intelligence, deepfakes, and cybercrime were also brought up
02:19in the hearing. The DICT appealed to Congress to pass a measure that would allow suspects
02:24in such cases to be charged even without a complainant.
