00:00
And we're back to ETV Sports. We're live with Team Falcons Philippines and Twisted Minds, Sir Ren and Ms. Lexie.
00:10
Thank you so much for giving us your time this morning.
00:13
Yes, you're here early in the morning, so let's start our story this morning.
00:19
Can you tell us the reason to enter the Philippine Mobile Legends scene from all other regions in NPL?
00:26
For Team Falcons, the important thing is performance metrics. We want to find the best place to compete.
00:33
And for Mobile Legends, Philippines has been the world champion for the past five years.
00:39
We're also the winners for the ML competition in the past three SEA Games.
00:43
So if there's a region to compete for ML, it's going to be in the Philippines.
00:49
For Twisted Minds, I think we all know PH is one of the strongest regions.
00:53
So that's mainly the reason why PH invests in Twisted Minds.
01:00
I have a follow-up question. Why do you think the Philippines is one of the best gamers in the world?
01:08
I think the big part is obviously we're early adapters of the game.
01:12
But at the same time, there has been a flourishing competition here.
01:17
For example, NPL has been going on for 14-15 seasons.
01:22
And I think it's a big part in developing our players in the Philippines.
01:32
With that being said, can you tell us about your preparations and expectations for the first season of NPL?
01:41
For us, to be honest right now, a lot is just getting ready.
01:45
We're very new, so getting things set up and making sure the players are equipped and they can perform the best they can.
01:54
For us, especially for me, the processes are important.
01:57
Because I believe that once the processes are set up, then the results will follow.
02:01
So once we smoothen out the operations here in the Philippines, then we're all good.
02:07
But sir, you mentioned that you're just new and you're still looking at it.
02:15
What do you think will be your advantage in joining this season?
02:37
I can't really say about the processes, but I think the basic ones like starting training,
02:45
or how do we actually connect with the people in MENA, for example.
02:51
Or how do we maximize the resources that they have there and for us to use it entirely.
02:59
Okay.
03:00
But can you share with us what are the differences between Mobile Legends and other esports genres that you're a part of?
03:13
For ML, obviously, I think the big part is it's very big in the Philippines.
03:17
It's literally the biggest esports title in the Philippines.
03:21
So there's a lot of attention, there's a lot of eyeballs.
03:25
For Falcons, the org does a lot of games, but this is special because it's a way to attract not only the Filipino market,
03:34
but also towards the Southeast Asian market.
03:38
For Twisted Minds, they do have other titles as well, but seeing Mobile Legends and then opening in the PH market is really a huge thing.
03:48
Have you tried playing Mobile Legends?
03:50
Mobile Legends, yes.
03:51
You know, I'm a top global player.
03:54
I always use Layla.
03:56
I play Layla.
03:57
I'm a marksman.
03:59
It's a good game.
04:01
I also tried playing ML because I tried to be a caster initially.
04:07
But I saw a lot of things on the screen.
04:09
I don't think it's a game for me.
04:13
Aside from those that you mentioned, let's talk about the fans are saying that esports now,
04:22
the Esports World Cup is the primary reason why there are big organizations.
04:29
But let me start with you, ladies first.
04:31
What can you say about the fans commenting on that?
04:35
I think it's true.
04:37
But basically, again, PH is a competitive scene.
04:41
That's where it really comes from.
04:43
Okay.
04:44
What do you think, aside from PH being competitive,
04:47
who do you think will be our strong opponents in this?
04:53
Do I stay in the region?
04:55
Yeah, that's fine.
04:56
I think Indonesia.
04:59
Okay.
05:00
Actually, everyone has their own strengths.
05:02
But I just think PH is built different.
05:05
Oh, I like that.
05:07
How about you, sir?
05:08
For PH, originally, the org has a team for ML in the MENA region.
05:15
However, Esports World Cup did have them look at stronger setups.
05:22
In this case, the stronger setup is the Philippines, which is why they're going here.
05:26
So that's not totally out of the region.
05:28
But the reality as well, aside from that is,
05:31
PH had the privilege of having a partnership the past year with a local org.
05:36
So we're able to explore what can be done here.
05:40
And now we think it's best if we can grow our own community here by ourselves.
05:45
But before I go to other questions,
05:49
I would like to ask, sir Ren and Ms. Lexie,
05:53
what does it mean, why Team Falcons and Twisted Minds?
06:02
For both of us, I think it's the orgs.
06:04
It's the orgs.
06:05
It's the mother orgs from the investors.
06:08
For me, the question is, how does the team practice to be this competitive
06:18
and to be able to sustain that high level of intensity in playing?
06:24
Because a lot of Filipinos, although we are all gamers as you've mentioned,
06:28
they're wondering, why are the Filipinos so good at this?
06:35
I think there's two sides.
06:37
One is in-game and outside of the game.
06:39
So in-game, of course, you have the training, the scrims, the practices.
06:42
Then outside of the game, you also consider their health,
06:45
their mental being and everything.
06:47
Their emotional state, everything.
06:49
Wow.
06:50
Okay, so how do you try to maintain or allow the athletes to be in that kind of situation?
06:59
We do have therapists, doctors, nutritionists to help everybody get in shape.
07:05
So as a whole.
07:07
So it's not like other sports, right?
07:11
There's also PT.
07:16
Not really heavy on the PT side, but yeah.
07:19
Balancing the physical and mental aspect, right?
07:22
Actually, it's good to know that.
07:24
Because in esports, we know that when it comes to esports, it's just a game.
07:29
Here, it's good for the public to know that there's this kind of thing being done.
07:37
I think one of the biggest difference from pro to amateurs is how intentional the training is.
07:42
As an amateur player, the training is playing a lot.
07:46
I think with many other sports, your idea is you have to keep playing.
07:51
As you go towards professional, it's less total hours in actual games,
07:57
but also processing those training.
07:59
So in terms of practice matches, not only do you play,
08:02
but you also study what happened in those matches.
08:05
You process the results.
08:07
You discuss with your analysts and your coaches.
08:10
So you have a feedback loop for the players to get better.
08:13
It's not just sitting down and spending hours.
08:16
It's processing this.
08:18
It's also about technicalities and strategy.
08:21
You mentioned training a lot of hours.
08:23
How much time is a lot?
08:26
Actually, for amateurs, it's just playing all day.
08:30
All day?
08:31
I think that's the idea of training for many amateurs in many categories.
08:39
The idea was if you spend more hours, you get better.
08:42
For pros, it's usually around 2-3 scrims per day.
08:47
I think it's a good spot.
08:49
But then it's put with other activities like analyzing,
08:52
communications with teams, team building,
08:54
talking with other people as well,
08:56
and building other characteristics outside of gameplay.
09:01
And speaking of getting better,
09:03
how big is the pressure on us,
09:08
especially since it's your first time here at MPL?
09:11
How big is the pressure for our team to excel
09:15
against mainstream teams like RSQ Philippines and others?
09:22
Well, there's big shoes to fill
09:25
because we are taking the spots of two well-loved teams.
09:30
At the same time, we welcome the expectations.
09:37
Between choosing a situation where the fans are expecting from us
09:42
and they don't have any expectations,
09:43
we'd rather welcome that they're expecting a lot of things from us.
09:48
For us, I think pressure.
09:51
What is pressure?
09:54
In every field, there's pressure.
09:56
Good pressure is okay,
09:58
but too much pressure is not okay.
10:00
But I think pressure to excel, it's normal.
10:05
We accept that.
10:06
And in terms of expectations,
10:08
I think let's just walk the talk.
10:12
Do you take it as a challenge for your team?
10:17
Yes, for all teams.
10:21
So we don't underestimate the other teams.
10:25
Ms. Lexie, you mentioned too much pressure.
10:27
When is too much pressure for a team like yours?
10:31
I think too much pressure is when the players cannot fully function anymore
10:37
and then they cannot cope up with the trainings and all.
10:43
I have a follow-up question, Pao.
10:45
Sometimes, athletes are told that some are good at waking up,
10:50
some are not.
10:52
But compared to the sport,
10:56
some are more on physical.
10:58
How about for esports?
10:59
Is there such a thing?
11:03
There can be.
11:04
But for professional athletes,
11:06
what we want to maintain is minimizing those variables
11:12
because consistency is the most important part.
11:15
If you want to be pro, you cannot be good on some days and bad on some days.
11:19
You have to be excellent every time.
11:24
Sometimes, superstitions are hard to get rid of.
11:27
But those are the things we want to minimize.
11:29
Okay.
11:30
Interesting, Ms. Lexie.
11:32
I think for us, it's just...
11:34
There are players like that.
11:36
What you can do is to train them how to adapt,
11:40
how they can cope up with the bad waking up,
11:46
or the loose tricks.
11:50
First, Ren.
11:51
I just want to ask you.
11:52
We acquired the full roster of AP Bren.
11:56
How did the process go?
11:58
And how did the players react
12:00
to know that they will be part of Team Falcon?
12:03
I think I cannot speak to the acquisition as a whole.
12:06
I think what's fair to say at this moment is
12:10
we have released our roster for a competition next week,
12:13
which is SPS.
12:15
These players, we've worked before on our partnership.
12:18
And we're happy to have them.
12:20
I think we're confident with us being together for this event.
12:24
And what do you feel,
12:25
that we'll be able to face our former partners, AP Bren?
12:29
For AP Bren on this coming MPL,
12:32
between Falcons and them,
12:34
there's just a lot of appreciation.
12:36
It's a very fruitful partnership in the past 12 months.
12:40
So I think we meet that with gratitude.
12:44
We're not looking at it as a special match.
12:47
It's a match that we do with everyone.
12:50
But obviously, we're going to be happy to see them.
12:53
We're happy to compete against them.
12:55
Okay, Ms. Lexie.
12:56
Ms. Lexie, you came from RSG.
12:58
And there are a lot of notable players,
13:00
and of course, coaches from Blacklist.
13:02
But can you give us a hint?
13:05
Who's on your roster?
13:06
Are there any former MPL page teams?
13:10
Actually, I cannot say.
13:11
But watch out for Feb 12, guys.
13:14
We will release our roster.
13:16
But what can the gamers and your supporters expect
13:22
from your team this coming season?
13:25
This coming season, I think we'll do well.
13:30
She's so excited.
13:31
We'll do well.
13:33
I don't want to talk to her.
13:36
Yes, of course.
13:37
Sir Ren, what can the people expect from Falcons?
13:41
For this season,
13:43
like how we approach every other game,
13:46
we're going to be here to win.
13:47
So we're going to be striving for that.
13:49
And I think this is just the first step
13:51
in the organization's plan to expand towards Southeast Asia.
13:54
So we're happy to be in the Philippines,
13:56
and we want to keep pushing forward.
13:58
Any long-term goals for the organization?
14:02
Well, our Global Esports Director was here a few weeks ago.
14:06
So one of the things he said is
14:09
there's a vision for Southeast Asian operations,
14:11
and we want to focus on the Philippines for that.
14:14
Wow, that's something that our Filipino gamers
14:17
look forward to. Miss Lexi?
14:19
Similar to that.
14:20
They want to focus first on PH, expanding in PH,
14:23
and then we will go from there.
14:24
Right, okay.
14:25
This is your time to invite or message your supporters.
14:29
Ladies first.
