00:35Should parents treat their children as friends?

00:39Yes.

00:41But you also need to show that you are the parent and you are the adult.

00:51I wouldn't call it a boundary but it's more of growing with mutual respect.

00:57Like in our case, we're very fortunate that our kids grew up to be very respectful,

01:03very loving, but also like we're just friends.

01:10And I don't know how it really happened but it's a beautiful mix.

01:14Like you said, it's a happy mix of treating us like the parents that we are to them.

01:19But at the same time, we joke around.

01:22Like my daughter loves to make fun of me.

01:26And I love it.

01:27Because the element of friendship should not be lost.

01:30So there's a time of friendship but there are instances that you would say,

01:34Wait, there are instances like that?

01:36Yes.

01:37And the kids know that?

01:38Yes.

01:39How about you?

01:40It's the same.

01:41I guess there's a boundary.

01:42Boundaries are important.

01:43The kids know that they cannot speak to us like friends.

01:48They still need to remember that we're still their parents.

01:52Like the po or po is still there.

01:54We respect, though, their boundaries.

01:56And then when we talk about fun things, that's when, you know,

01:59it's like we're friends.

02:00But they need to see and feel the boundary

02:04that we cannot speak to each other like, Hey, you're just friends.

02:08I guess the friendship there would come probably

02:12if you want to say something to everyone.

02:15But let's be realistic.

02:16They don't say everything.

02:18I wanted to go there.

02:19Because is it for real?

02:21When parents or children say, I'm very close to my mother,

02:24I'm very close to my father,

02:25all of my parents know what's happening to me.

02:29That's not necessarily true.

02:31Well, in my case, okay,

02:33they don't know everything that we think of as parents.

02:37So same with them.

02:38I know when they don't want to share everything.

02:41So I respect that.

02:42That one, you know?

02:45I know the boundaries of being a person, right?

02:50What do I want people to know about me all the time?

02:54What can I hide?

02:57And that's what I apply to my kids, right?
