Philippine police mourns officer killed in tragic Washington DC plane crash
The Philippine National Police says on Jan. 31, 2025 that it mourns the loss of an officer who was among 67 people killed in the collision between two aircraft in Washington DC. PNP spokesman Randulf Tuano told a news conference in Manila that Police Col. Pergentino Malabed, who was also chief of its supply management division, was on board the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Potomac River after it collided with an Army Black Hawk helicopter on Jan. 29. Malabed was in the US to oversee a procurement of armored vests and had travelled to Washington, DC to pay a courtesy call to the country's police attaché at the Philippine embassy, according to local media. The PNP extended its condolences to Malabed's family and are assisting his wife with her travel to the US.
