00:00This, of course, is a particularly gruesome and disturbing case. It was March of last
00:06year in Sutton, in South London, when Steve Sansom, along with his partner Gemma Watts,
00:13lured 38-year-old Sarah Mayhew back to Sansom's ground-floor flat with the depraved and sadistic
00:21intention to murder her prior to the pair dismembering her body and distributing the
00:26remains around parts of South London. The judge, Mrs Justice Cutts, said both the defendants
00:35were equally involved in the plan to lure Miss Mayhew back to Sansom's flat, adding,
00:40you had lured Sarah to the flat for depraved and violent sexual activity during which she
00:47was to be killed. Her fear and suffering must have been acute as she realised why she was there
00:56and what was happening. The judge added she was an innocent woman lured to the flat to die
01:04in order that you both could act out your bloodthirsty and wicked fantasy. Stand up, both of you.
01:16Stephen Sansom, for the murder of Sarah Mayhew, I sentence you to life imprisonment.
01:20I set no minimum term in your case. That means that you will spend the rest of your life in
01:25prison. For perverting the course of public justice, the sentence is five years imprisonment
01:30concurrent. Gemma Watts, for the murder of Sarah Mayhew, the sentence is one of life imprisonment.
01:38You will serve a minimum term of 29 years and 90 days.
