Bob Menendez, a once-powerful U.S. Senator from New Jersey known for his strong support of Taiwan, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for accepting bribes in exchange for providing aid to foreign governments.

He was known for his strong support for Taiwan, introducing numerous pro-Taiwan bills over

During the sentencing, Menendez reportedly broke down crying and asked for leniency.
