Bob Menendez, a once-powerful U.S. Senator from New Jersey known for his strong support of Taiwan, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for accepting bribes in exchange for providing aid to foreign governments.

00:24During the sentencing, Menendez reportedly broke down crying and asked for leniency.
