A couple have spent $20k turning the "worst house on the block" into their dream home - with skills they learned watching YouTube.   Chris Hennessey, 36, and his wife, Athena, 34, bought their three-bedroom house in Chicago, Illinois, US, in June 2023, for $370k.  They claim it was the "worst house on the block" - as it was outdated and unkept - and started renovating by ripping up the flooring.  After refurbishing the original wood flooring and making the kitchen functional, the pair moved into the house in September 2023 and have been living in it while renovating.  Since buying the house, the couple have rewired all the electrics, reworked the plumbing, and added a bathroom - through skills that Chris learnt in education and YouTube videos.

00:30We've been together for 12 years, married for five.

00:32We bought our first home in Chicago a year ago with plans to renovate it

00:35ourselves and move in.

00:37Unfortunately, a terrible neighbor caused us to make the decision to flip and sell

00:40the home, never getting a chance to even move in.

00:43We put everything we had into the flip and sold it after only six months.

00:47And we started from scratch.

00:49We've had amazing family and friends who have let us and our two dogs live in

00:52their basements for the last couple of years.

00:54As we looked for a new home, we finally fell in love with a 1909 American four

00:58square home in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago.

01:01It needs a lot of work to renovate and restore its charm, and we plan on doing

01:05most of it ourselves.
