Farmers protested in car parks and at supermarkets across Kent, highlighting their concerns for new inheritance tax policies.  Henry Luck reports.

00:00It's not every day you see two giant tractors parked outside your local Sainsbury's, but

00:07being the NFU's farming day of unity, they're making sure their campaign against changes

00:14to inheritance tax stays on track.

00:17Many will remember how thousands of farmers across the country came to Westminster to

00:24protest the controversial introduction of a 20% inheritance tax to farms worth more

00:32than £1m and the farming day of unity gives them the chance to thank the public for their

00:40support and voice their opinions on a local level.

00:45Speaking to the farmers just now, here's what they've had to say to me about the importance

00:50of why they're outside supermarkets and the importance of bringing farmer related issues

00:57to the public.

00:58We are not getting anywhere with trying to convince the government they've made a mistake.

01:04They're not listening to us.

01:06We can't get any interview with the treasury or with Rachel Reeves and so we can't put

01:12our case across that although we understand the target they were trying to hit, they've

01:18completely missed the target and all they're going to do is attack the family farms that

01:24produce the food that this country so desperately needs and that is just madness.

01:30We already have a number of tax planning things in place, but we're still going to have to

01:37look very hard at how we pass on the agricultural assets to the next generation who are looking

01:46to take it on.

01:47However, a statement from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs says the

01:54government is still devoted to farmers and their produce.

01:59They'll also be introducing larger budgets and reforms which will help farmers financially

02:06for at least the next decade.

02:09As farmers worry for their future, they hope the Farming Day of Unity has planted a seed

02:15in the hearts and minds of the public which will give them food for thought.
